Squeaky/rubbing noise coming from the steering wheel.

At low speeds, in any mode, if I turn the wheel slowly there is a rubbing/squeaky noise coming from the steering wheel. I have no clue when it started but it pisses me off. Worth taking to the dealer?

I have the same thing. Just happened all of a sudden and no matter where I have my steering wheel set, it still does it. Mine does it only when I turn wheel to the right. It sounds creeky like an old door opening.

Good luck with that...I have that most of the time as well, not so much a squeak as it is a rubbing noise. Took the car in for service and the damn thing stopped while there. They couldnt replicate it but they lubricated the area around the steering wheel/column since that is where I told them the sound was coming from. On the way home, they were right, it wasnt doing it. Great problem solved. Two weeks later started back up. If its the same as you guys, its fairly faint. If you have the music off or extremely low, then you hear it, if the music is up then harder to hear. Minor annoyance which really only seems to bother me or be noticed when i have friends, family or customers in the car and we are just talking with no stereo on. Then you hear it loud and clear If the dealer finds it exactly, please post so we all get it corrected...

Its the rubber seal behind the steering wheel, had the same thing and the dealer will fix it. If it becomes a grinding noise its the steering wheel bearing and there are a few threads about it if you search. Hope this helps!

I have had this - they ended up lubricating it and then replacing the entire steering column. It's odd...

I believe there is a service bulletin on this. They just lubricated something within the column. It has been squeak free for a year (knock on wood).

Mine does the same thing. Yeah, it's pretty annoying. Definitely see what the dealer can do.

Anyone know what kind of lubricant they use to fix this? Car is at dealer and it sounds like it's not covered by CPO. I was told it requires special lube which has to come from Germany.

They finally fixed it on my 2012 328i, but I dont recall what it was. lube was only part of it though. HOwever, have since also bought a 2012 335 and it has the same issue. They just replaced some parts which reduced it significantly but just got it back and there is still some of it happening so need to take it back in. My car is a CPO so will find out and post when I get the results.

Good luck, post results. I was told it's not covered under CPO, maybe you'll have better luck.

Well dealer said there was a service bulletin for this but declined to let me have a copy of the instructions. The bulletin is SIB-32-04-13, is there any way to look up the corrective action?

Reviving an old thread...

Having the same issue on my 2013 F30 and dealer couldn't replicate the problem. I found this online about the SIB mentioned above. But lubrication will only work for so long before the plastic starts to squeak again.

Anyone that had their steering wheel replaced have a service OPCODE or description details of their repair order ? I would like to take as much details that I can to the dealer.
