Cooling system overworking

On a few occasions in the last year and half with my 2014 335, I will notice even after 20-40 min of driving the engine temp will be around 180 (very low) and the engine fan will be running full power (like a hot summer day) which is obviously overcooling the motor. The car will behave somewhat sluggish. Simply shutting off the motor and turning it back on cures it, fan speed on restart will be normal and engine temp over the next few min will rise to normal. Is this worth a service trip or just a random quirk? Currently I cannot find any correlation to driving and there is no way to reproduce it. Only happened 4 or 5 times all in the afternoon. Anyone else noticed anything similar??

that seems 100% normal, my car is always at that first line on the oil temperature gauge, its only goes half way or higher when I start to push it and drive more aggressively.

You can't tell the coolant temperature from the gauge, as it reflects the oil temperature.

Sounds very similar to limp mode. Fan goes to high, very sluggish, no cel or idrive warnings, and goes away after a shutdown. I remember it being a issue with M sport and the auxiliary coolers and tripping a over heat conditions that really didn't happen.

I would bring it into the dealer as there have been some issues with the thermostat not functioning properly. Our previous F30 had to have the thermostat replaced, apparently this has been a common issue with the earlier models.

Fan and sensor issues seem fairly common with the F30. I had an issue with my a/c fan dropping to low when it was set on high, without any change to the fan speed display. Turned out to be some sort of engine temp sensor IIRC.

The M-Sport models with the auxiliary coolant radiator and fan have had issues with the fan. I've had mine replaced twice - so far, no further problems. But it did cause just what the OP is describing.
