Leaf in the Fan

Had a noisy CH fan particularly when on full blast over this recent hot weather. Sounded like a Merlin engine warming up at the end of the runway!
Quite liked it!
Anyway the car had to go in for an oil change (subject of another post) so the BMW Main Dealer said they would sort it.
To my surprise they said it was a leaf jammed in the fan!
And the remedy: a mod, a grill in front of the fan to trap leaves!
How can this be possible when there is supposed to be an air intake microfilter!
I am baffled! I suspect the filter had not been positioned correctly and therefore let past a leaf.
Anyone any other ideas?

This is quite common, I have had this mod as well. I think the filter is after the fan as in the air is pumped through the pollen filter.

Had this on mine too. Car was only a few months old and the dealer tried to get me to sign a disclaimer that I'd guarantee coughing up a few hundred quid if they found nothing. After telling them where they could poke that, they found a leaf in the fan and applied the mod

In the F30 The microfilter is installed on the pressure side of the blower. This reduces air contaminants in both fresh-air and air recirculation modes.

Looks as if BMW have a problem ahead of the blower.
