Rattle question for recent buyers
To make a long story short I have been through rattle hell with my 335i. The car was a 10th build week and as soon as I got it I had the mother of all rattles in the dash (could be the HUD or center speaker). The dealer has tried for a month and can't fix it. There is also an issue with the steering box so BMWNA is buying the car back.
My question is if any of the recent deliveries with the HUD have had this issue or should I just bag it and get something different? |

I have a 2012 Sportline 328i, with the stiff suspension, the rattle coming from the center stack is getting worse day by day. I'm almost at 4000 miles and its quite annoying. Whats the most the dealership can do? Keep in mind that I moved away from the dealership where I bought the car.
I believe someone posted what they thought was the solution, lining the Nav Screen housing unit with felt tape. |

My 2013 328i M Sport just turned over 800 miles and today I noticed a rattle coming from the center stack. Not sure if it's the HVAC controls or the Nav screen or what??? It's definitely coming from the middle of the dash. Not annoying yet but I'm still in the honeymoon phase. I won't like it if it gets much worse....

I've got a MY12 328i with HUD and (touch wood) after 4,000m I am still relatively free of rattles & creaks etc. There is a very occasional faint buzzing noise from somewhere around the sunroof controls when on particularly bad roads but that's all. Let's hope it stays that way - my E81 was completely rattle/squeak free for two and a half years.

This means they still haven't fixed the problem with the rattle, I was hoping the 2013's would be free of the problem. Also, the stiffer suspension cars are more likely to be suffering from the issue.

Same issue on 2013 328 xdrive. It sounds like it's in the center of the dashboard, but if you try to feel the rattle with your hand, it appears to come from the middle console, from under the gear selector. Anyone tried to get it corrected at the dealer?

My car is in the shop right now. I'll keep you posted. Side note: My base line F30 loaner with 2500 miles is rattle free and vibration free...

My car, a June build, has a small rattle coming from the gear lever - if you apply pressure to the top of the gear lever, or squeeze the top, it goes away.

Only rattle in mine was a very faint rattle from the rear seat light cluster that a light push took care of. But before you think I'm lucky, I'm having my driveshaft replaced at 1000 miles

No rattles in mine at 3900 miles, other than the toll pass hitting the windshield sometimes.

My car is 1.5 weeks old, 400 miles and today I heard the dreaded HUD rattle. It's really noticeable, I though the throttle was interfering with the radio. Like others it happens in a higher RPM range and is silenced by pressing down the front corner of the HUD in the dash.

Check the shiftknob if you have a manual. My shiftknob rattled like crazy and I thought it was my dash as well. They are hollow plastic and nothing like the m sport that I got to replace it. Sound is gone now. May not be it but worth checking out.

Break in, break in and break in.
My sept build 335xi mspot had the rattles and pig squalling brakes from day one with 7 miles on the odomter. Did the usual with the Dealership, as a repeating customer for past 10 years and 5 bimmers, the CA and SA suggested to drive for a while. And if not getting better, they would take care of it whatever I like. Well, 1500 miles later, all are gone and I'm happy. |

You must be joking if you expect people to live with rattles inside the interior for a 50k car. I for one will not accept such a car. If my car has rattles all over the interior at 5700 miles, think of the condition when I go to sell it at around 40000 miles. How am I supposed to sell the car?
