435i GC lurches when I let off the gas?
I've had my BMW 435i GC for a week. When I'm driving and coming to stop light/sign I'm accustomed to letting the gas off completely and coasting for a bit before I put the brake on.
I noticed when I let the gas off completely in my car the engine will rev and the car lurches a bit as it slows down. This is my first BMW so I'm not sure if it's normal. Thanks! |

The F3x seems to have more engine braking at low speeds built in than previous generations. Mine does sometimes slow faily aggresively at low speeds (<25mph) when I let off the gas. It seems to vary depending on the car's mood though, sometimes it behaves a bit more normally and other times it feels like somebody threw out a boat anchor. I've gotten used to a bit of jerking at parking lot speeds, but I do find it to be a minor annoyance.

my 435 GC doesn't lurch or rev like you describe. i haven't noticed that in any setting of the sport AT.
the only caveat being if you've REALLY been flogging the car in SPORT or SPORT+ mode. if you've been working the car hard, the engine will hold revs much longer and engine brake like chiefneil describes. this is proper though because the car is ready to take off again. |

Regenerative braking. The car is providing the battery with excess charge to power the start/stop feature.
If you're in Sport or Sport+ it's more of the car holding the gear so you're in the meaty part of the powerband the second you hit the throttle. |

Yes, happens more in Sport mode especially if you've been flogging it. As others said, it's holding the gear longer. I like it...feels more like a manual tranny.
Don't think I've felt it in Comfort or Eco, though. Keep in mind it's adaptive, and shift points may change depending on how you drive. I say "may" because it sometimes seems to have a mind of it's own, I can't really predict when it will hold the gear or not. Wish there was a button to turn off adaptation. (yeah, I know...move shift lever to the left and shift manually). |

Agree it is more noticeable at lower speeds. I assume this has something to do with EfficientDynamics and the extra drag on the drive train being used to charge the battery.
