how long BMW is going to stick with the 328i nameplate?

remember during E36, E46 and early part of E90 days, BMW had gone back and forth between 325 and 328 numerous times. to have a 328 name on a 2.0 turbo 4 just doesn't make any sense. my bet is after the initial model year, BMW is going to tweak that 2.0 T4 a little bit, more aggressive mapping program maybe and come back in 2014 wearing 325T or even 320T.

AFAIK, the model designation no longer reflects displacement/engine in the car, it's just used for marketing now. I think there was an article posted here explaining that a while back.

You mean massive body roll, a steering system that is not connected to the front wheels, and the engine note played through the speaker system?!?!?!?!

3 stands for 3 series
28 stands for the number of elephants equal to that enginepower
i stands for the person driving it

Very clever indeed.

funny guy...

28 doesn't have to actually match the HP. its to tell people that this 3er has more power than a 325 or 320.

if bmw is to put 320i on a 328 or 325 or 320 (all these have the same displacement a 2.0l Turbocharged engine) people aren't going to know what power the 3er have. in my country you can order 320, 325, 328 (i think), 335. it would be a little confusing don't you think?

While you reflect on that...

...IŽll reflect on how long BMW will go on naming their cars with an "i"...would think every car in the damn world was injected by now, so maybe they will go back to carburetors, and mame their cars 328cb or something like that, lol...

I think that the 328 naming go back to 1937!
