Totally agree though with you about 4wd SUV's... they just dont make sense to me its just a status symbol... My B7 passat wagon handles like a fkn boat but I love the TDI for its torque and economy, comfy interior and loading space! |

I test drove a Passat 206TSI last week and wasn't impressed with it. Whilst nice, it misses out on too much kit (no HUD, birdseye view, comfort access tailgate...) and it just felt bland. I know with a tune and intake it would have a bit more attitude, but even then, you can only get them in boring shades of silver/grey and the styling is very conservative.

I test drove a new VFII Commodore SSV Redline today. I figured that if it's good in every other way, then I can deal with the fuel consumption. The car was worse than I was expecting. To start with, the driver's seat doesn't go ANYWHERE NEAR as low as I need it to go for my height. Pretty much every other remotely sporty or performance orientated car has adjustment for the driver's seat to go at least 2" lower than that one. Secondly, the engine sounds so harsh and thrashy. When you rev it above 5000rpm, it really lets you know it doesn't want to be there! Thirdly, the very low RPM torque that the 335i has heaps of around 1700-2000rpm for cruising up hills with ease is non-existant in the LS3 Commodore. You can really tell it's a single cam dinosaur engine without VVT. Fourth, the mirrors are tiny and the field of vision in the side mirrors looks like you're looking through a very narrow tunnel. You can't see shit. I was hoping that this would be an easy option due to them being so common. Bugger!
I'm hoping to test drive a 535i and a 330i in a couple of weeks. |

The Commodore is a whole different game - and don't get me wrong, I think it would be a pleasure to own a SSV as it will be the last of the NA V8s.
However, agree that A pillar visibility does really suck. That was a trade off they made with safety and investment in high strength steel...... Good to crash in though! It would be hard to get over that on a new car today (less so in 2006 when they first came out). |

I asked "The Australian Imported Motor Vehicle Industry Association" what the latest is on new car importation next year. They said they're still expecting the green light early next year. I've decided to hang on to my 335i until then and hopefully get a brand new 340i M-Sport Touring from the UK. Here is an example rough price estimate for one with the following options:
- Comfort Access - Front Electric Seats - M-Sport Plus Pack + Adaptive LED Headlights - Media Pack Professional I'd opt for the MPPSK and an M Performance LSD as pre-delivery options also but they weren't on the Broadspeed estimate list. That'll bump it into the LCT zone a little but that's OK. I'm hoping I would only have to pay LCT based on car price + shipping costs + Customs duty + GST but not including the rest. I'm guessing it's payable at the time of customs holding. I'm not a big fan of excessive options or included gimmicks so the UK model with minimal options would suit me perfectly. I did read somewhere that they were planning to lower the consumption threshold for what constitutes a "fuel-efficient vehicle" though. Hopefully not too soon! |

With no news or updates regarding imports and car space requirements growing fast (children's bikes etc), I bought a cheap VF Commodore Evoke Wagon for $15k for the Mrs to use through the week. Hopefully at some stage in the next year, I'll get an M235i for the fun/performance side of things. I gave up on trying to have everything in one car!

That's a shame, coming from an E91 335i I know how difficult it is to choose a replacement.
I'm leaning towards a stage 1 tuned 328i or 330i F31 msport. It think they would be fine for a daily. The import option still looks like great value if it comes through but I assume no factory warranty and surely some luxury car tax to add? The other consideration is a 435i/440i with the lift back though a bit ugly IMO. Or a 2012 335i E91 but they rarely come up. I think the Volvo V60 Polestar or T6 R performance & $ wise is tempting but not sure if I can bring myself to drive the Volvo and they look a little small. Older C63 a nice option but as you mention the fuel consumption and maintenance costs could be a concern. The passats have always been good buying but not exactly a drivers machine. B8 S4/RS4 still too much money for what you get and mileage wise. There is also the dreaded oil consumption issue with all B8s. A guy I know had his engine replaced in his B8 RS4, under warranty though. Anyway, good to hear from F31 drivers about their experience. Last edited by donR; 06-04-2017 at 12:45 AM.. |

With all of the pricing as it stands, there would be very little LCT, if any, to pay. I'd highly recommend to contact Paul Fletcher MP for an update on new car importation. Explain your lack of choice currently. |

Its optioned with: * Innovations Package * Harman Kardon Sound * M Sport Brakes (not M Performance) * Sunroof * Window Tinting * Boot Liner Car comes with 5 years of free servicing (not sure if its transferrable) I have fitted genuine M Performance front lip, side skirt decals & Extensions and diffuser (all painted gloss black), the whole kit was fitted by a professional shop (Australian Crash Repairs) that BMW Adelaide uses and recommends.
