Absolutely INTOLERABLE tracking situation!
Man, I am freaking apoplectic over this!
I've been tracking my 335's progress like a good boy since they put in the order on October 22nd. It left Bremerhaven on the Turandot on November 21st and passed through the Celtic Sea on the 26th. All very good. Then, IT DISAPPEARS!! poof...gone...nada It looks like I'll have to wait until December 2nd or so when it gets back near land in Canada to track it live again. And that's IF it isn't lost at sea. WTF ! Are we heading into 2013 or 1913? You tell me... And if $50 billion in taxpayer-funded satellites can't track the damn thing what's the problem with the goddam "crew" out there? Yo Mr. Steve A. Door; don't you guys know how to take a pic with ur iPhones and post 'em somewhere? Or are ya'll just partying like its 1999 for 9 days? Jeze, I feel like canceling my order I'm so mad. We're dealing with fools I tell ya: fools! |

I've got one on the Florida Highway scheduled to arrive in Brunswick today. Two days ago the ship was trackable in Baltimore area, now poof. Gone. Nada. Marinetraffic.com shows no boats at Brunswick and none in the vicinity. Seems like a technical issue or maybe the Bermuda Triangle ate a boat full of cars.

There's little AIS coverage in the middle of the Atlantic. (Satellites are not used here.)
Aside from that, it seems to be volunteer-driven. Wiki for those who are interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automat...ication_System |

You realize that cell phones don't work using satellites right? And that there is no wifi or 3G in the middle of the ocean?
The boats are on a schedule...it'll arrive on schedule pending any more hurricanes...

I waited 5 months for mine from order to production to ED-Redelivery. Once the ship is in international water, you can't track it until it is within the water of USA or Canada. Then it will be another 5-7 business days for Port VPC / Custom processing. |

Actually having a little fun, but not intending to be sarcastic.
It's amazing we can track at this level of detail at all...and I'm getting a kick out of it. |

It's kind of like waiting for Santa...
He won't show up if you are awake and tracking his movements (so stop stalking him!) (and I'm on the Turandot)

Or perhaps Somali pirates have captured the vessel?

Simmer Down Nah peeps!!!
I know the frustration. I watched as my ship would disappear, then reappear. Or I'd refresh and it would be back in Panama whereas it had just been off the coast of Mexico. It will get here. Of course, now I know my boat has ported and my car unloaded. It is now on a truck and CAN'T BE TRACKED!!!!! SO yes, I'm back to being a bit crazed as I wait patiently for my CA to call.

I'm in the same boat (pun intended). AIS is ground-based with roughly a 40 mile range from each ground station. I picked up the Don Juan by accident a couple days ago as it run an altered course near Angra do Heroísmo in the middle of the Atlantic.
There actually IS satellite-based tracking, but it's not free like the AIS. I think it's only about $15K for an annual subscription if you want to track the balance of your car's journey. Maybe we can go halfsies? |
