F32 435i Intake differences

Noticed different part numbers listed for intake mufflers based on options. Do MSport vehicles really have different intake mufflers?

Also noticed these 2 intake pieces have the same part number yet are visually different.

PART# 13717605654

PART# 13717605654

Extra Inner Rectangle with what appears to be some type of spring

PART#11122334344

And the MPPK intake muffler - What a joke

Maybe I should dremel out a nice big hole in my stock M-Sport airbox to minic the MPPK airbox?

I would have done that if I didn't get the MPPK. At least temporarily, until I installed a real intake.

Can anyone confirm if non M Sport vehicles have this air box? The one I have in my F32 looks exactly like this. The spring is attached to a flap that opens under heavy load to let in more air, I assume.

Update: According to Dinan, this small inlet is called a Snow Valve, part of BMW's winter package.

Why not just get a proper CAI? AFE makes a good one for about $150 less than Dinan's closed box more showy one.

I was going to, but after I did that, and I put a K&N, I was very happy with it, so why bother?

Instead spent my money getting a JB Stage 1 instead to get some real power gains.

If you are happy with just a K&N then great, but if you want to hear your turbo spooling and the wastegate blowing off boost then you will need a proper CAI.

Trust me, it spools loud and you hear it when I shift. I should take some cabin videos. I'm VERY happy with it.

Without the MPPK lower airbox the only engine inlet is via (highly restrictive) part #15 in the diagram. The MPPK adds an additional opening that makes the total engine inlet size much larger.

I drilled out 6 x 3/4" holes using a step bit / unibit.
