I have located 3 potential 335i's for purchase...how to avoid steering vibration? etc
Ok guys, I'm wanting to purchase a car before the end of this month. I've located three 335i's that fit the bill. Two are reasonably well equipped 2013's the other is a bit of a stripper 2014. The 2014 has dakota leather, M Sport and that's about it.
Note, these are all M Sport cars. All of these cars are more than 400 miles away, fate of living in a smaller city...how can I avoid the steering column issue? Or other common issues? Also two of these are off lease, the other is a two owner car (makes me a bit leery to be a 2 owner car and only two years old). They are all CPO, the car with the least miles is roughly 20k, the most has 34k on the clock. Assuming this week goes according to plan I will begin negotiations later this week on one or more of these cars and on the two Audi's I've located. Any experiences negotiating CPO would also be appreciated. |

are you sure it is a true 2 owner? Could have been 1 owner and the moved and registered in another state. That will show as a 2 owner (if using carfax to determine owners). Also, if it was a exec demo, sometimes carfax will show that as another owner. You can also have them show the service history and see if there was ever a complaint regarding the steering issue. If you give me the VIN i would be willing to look it up for you.

If the two owner CPO is truly a two owner you need to be very certain of exactly when it was retailed as a CPO. Newly CPO'd vehicles sold on or after January 1st, 2014 only transfer the CPO warranty when retailed again by a BMW dealer or in a private party sale. If the car is at a non-BMW dealer the odds are high the CPO warranty will not transfer.

Because I don't want my car to spend a week in the shop after I get it??? And I've read it's tough to fix if the car has the issue.

I'm not sure how people on a forum are going to help you with this concern. You can test drive all three cars, either you'll notice the issue, or you won't. If you don't notice it and it pops up later, they're under warranty. So really there's nothing to be concerned about, as I see it.

Seems like a crap shoot if you're not going to go test drive any of them, or know someone in the area to do it for you.

One other random question, do the 19 inch wheels on the M Sport models bend easier than the 18s? Two of the three cars have the 19's as opposed to the 18's.

I have the 19's on my M sport and have had zero issues with the rims or low profile tires but I do live in Atlanta so the roads are in good condition all year and, unlike my wife, I've very good at avoiding and pot holes or curbs. One of my only prerequisites for the m sport was 19's.

Lots of previous posts reporting that the 18's will give stronger service over time unless your roads are in good condition. If you LOVE the look of the 19's then get them --- otherwise, likely the 18's are the best choice.

Tulsa roads are bad. Finding the equipment I want with 18's may prove challenging, a few do exist though. Probably shouldn't let wheels determine, heck I might even find someone willing to trade.

Ok guys, one of the cars sold, but it was 1,500 miles away and flights were expensive. The next two at least as of now are still for sale. When it comes to negotiation of CPO prices what kind of room are you guys seeing for these dealers to move prices?
One of these cars is a 2014 and priced just under 45k. It is pretty well equipped but 45k is over the 40k cap I had set for the car. Given it's a 2014 and not a 2013 I could argue that I'll get a portion back on resale but still don't want to go much over 40k. The car is the right color but has a few more options on it than I would have preferred. Any tips/thoughts? |

Does anyone know if there was a dealer installed carbon fiber trim option? I've found an additional M Sport car much closer to home (still a solid days drive) and it's got what appears to be a carbon fiber trim around the gear shift and that little blue strip that runs across the dash is this carbon looking trim.
Not sure how I feel about someone modding the trim in the vehicle...makes me wonder what else was/is modded on the car. Good news is it was bought new at the same BMW dealer that has it now, they told me the owner traded it on a diesel 3 series. Edit: nevermind it's a BMW M Performance option that can be dealer installed, I found the parts in the BMW catalog. Last edited by OUGrad05; 05-12-2015 at 12:45 PM.. |
