Shortened Shift Stick on M

Has anyone actually noticed or checked on whether the M sport stick shift is actually shorter than the reg? I know its not a short shift kit, its prolly just a shorter stick ... anyway, wondering if thats just another marketing ploy or not

It's just a shorter knob actually. It's also weighted, while the standard knob is very light.
