...Would you pick it over RWD?

I'm considering the 335d xdrive over a 330d which could be fitted with the ppk but its almost cheaper the by the 335d and with the increased residuals it is cheaper on the select deals. I was originally looking at an F31, but I've decided that we will change our mini for a 1 series so it can do the more practical stuff meaning I can get the saloon

So if the xdrive wasn't any extra, would you take it over RWD?

Even if was a no-cost option, you'd really still want the adaptive suspension, so either way, it's going to cost extra. But in a hypothetical scenario where it was free and didn't compromise the standard MSports suspension, I would still prefer sDrive over xDrive unless taking one of the 6cyl engines where the extra grip on hard acceleration would help.

Would depend on what I wanted xDrive for. For normal driving no need for it, IMO. If I lived even more remote up here in the Highlands and wanted 'belt and braces' traction in winter, I'd be tempted. But would still have winter wheels anyway, so even that 'get going' benefit would be marginal.

That is probably my biggest gripe tbh. Such a shame as I can get a 335d xdrive with adaptive for the same money as a 330d without it. Such a shame they don't do the 335d RWD

Not really. You get more of a 0-20 benefit. Ie the traction to get going. Once traction is achieved the s drive wins hands down. Some site had more measurements and the s drive was quicker to 100 usually even though the 60 was reached by x first. It's all academic anyway as the differences you're talking about are small compared to human factors.

Maybe the x drive just has better traction coz its a bit heavier?

Good points, but mostly that would be true if you compare a 330d xdrive and 330d sdrive, but if you go for a 335d xdrive, the closest sdrive is the 330d. Probably indicative that there is too much power for the back wheels alone

Only on the 330d xdrive (and 335d xdrive - although no 335d sdrive to compare it with).

All other xdrive engines are the same/slower to 62. The 320d xdrive is identical 0-62 as the sdrive and the 320i xdrive is in fact slower than the sdrive.

Definitely xdrive for me, winters are long and cold here. If I was in the UK, where winters are nigh on tropical in comparison I would stay with rwd (probably). We can wear dubbed tires which makes It even more interesting in the winters.

What's with xDrive and the 335d? Why not on the 335i? And why's the 335d not called a 340d?!?
