Updated the pics, didn't realize photobucket blocked it. It used to be free, luckily f30post now has a embedded photo function, not when I created the guide initially.

My last car had HU_entry and it is so much easier to upgrade to NBT and I have a couple of questions that I hope you don't mind answering..

1. Microphones - do you have passenger & driver mics as I want to know if there is a point you can get access to all four wires?
2. Where did you stick your Bluetooth antenna? I am thinking either hide it in the centre console or shove it up in the dash somewhere!

Same issue for me. I have done the retrofit, only thing left is install Bluetooth antenna(Guess I'll mount inside the console) and then hook up the MIC wire. The MIC wire form my NBT to the mic, is what has me worried. I would assume I could run it through the dash, out the side of the dash, up the A-pillar, and to the MIC through the headline. I would assume you can take sun-visor lose to give more liner room, and then just un-hook and then re-hook and good to go.

Ive seen a lot of ok DIYs on this, but does anyone have a more detailed one? Is the mic in the Liner above me (F32 - 2014) or is it in the middle light dome section? Ive seen two different write ups now where the mic was in different locations. A good picture route path for the MIC would be nice.

So I did the NBT Retrofit, and I can get the phone to pair, sound to come through, but I cannot get the MIC to work. Havent been able to figure that one out yet.

Hello very useful retrofit.
But i am a little confused where do you connect the 2 cable (steps 12-15)?

He's replacing a CIC iDrive controller with a NBT Touch controller. The CIC controller is connected to the Kcan1 bus, but the NBT controller connects to the Kcan2 bus - so he's running two wires connected to the Kcan2 bus, to replace the existing Kcan1 wires.

Thank you for your reaction.
But where do you connect the 2 wires?
Which no. Of pins do you connect it to?

I've been researching a but but I have not found an answer: If I'm only planning on using the non-touch NBT controller, will the existing CIC controller wiring work?

I'm thinking it would not, assuming I have KCAN1 and I think I read somewhere the non-touch NBT has KCAN2? How does this change steps 12-15?

It doesn’t change the steps at all. He is going from cic to nbt touch controller which uses the kcan2 wires so jus follow what he did. Doesn’t matter if ur using the non touch nbt controller it will still b the same. The only difference in the wiring between the two is the tbx module being connected, when I upgraded my regular idrive to touch idrive was jus plug n play (not including the tbx wiring)

Btw I have a kcan2 idrive knob, the small one without navigation button if someone would need it for a cheap alternative.

Great post man and even better to see that you're also from Australia.

Could be a stupid question, but was just wondering what my options were as my starting point is a bit different.

I have CIC with Business NAV. I have bluetooth for Phone calls only and I also don't have any Combox in my boot?

Am I still able to do same install, or will I be running into problems without Combox?

2012 F30 320D.

Thanks

This is the exact DIY I need to do for HU.CIC ENTRY .WIth Combox HIFI . Although looks like OP purchased a modded harness with all the wires tapped in and ready to go..
Looks Like 3 separate Taps to be done that Ill do in the MMI harness....
1. IDRIVE CANH CANL- pins 11, 9 in NBT Run to new 7button controller
2. Harman Radio Tap(amp remote) - Pin 13 to 15 in NBT
3. Microphone Wire- pin 1 from mic to pin 17 in NBT pin 2 from mic to pin 22 in NBT

Final Thing would be to confirm DISPLAY VARIANTE and RESOLUTION and then FSC CODES that can be purchased for the NAV which ill end up doing as well..

Am i MIssing anything at all? I think ive got all bases covered??
Appreciate Everyones Support that got me this Far...
