Strange! I can give u copy of detail that I was sent;(

F30:
Without the navigation, NBT will cost you $2,200.00CAD during March sale. Since Combox is built into the NBT, you will have bluetooth audio. ENET cable for F30 is inlcuded in the NBT kit.

Option at $800.00CAD is for an FSC activation code to activation navigation. For this option, the vehicle must be equipped with the actual NBT head unit, which your vehicle does not currently have. Therefore you must install: NBT head unit, CID display and import FSC code for nav activation.

For bluetooth audio, Combox is required. However, in 2013 F30s, Combox is built into the NBT, so without NBT you will not have an opportunity to have bluetooth audio.
So I was quoted around $3000 just to turn Bluetooth audio on and navigation comes as collateral benefit.

According to the bellow info "Navigation map Satellite View" is shown. Does this mean i get Navigation option? Sort of confused... I have included the attachment.

Combox Media Retrofit for F-Series BMW Vehicles - $539
Features of the Combox Media retrofit:
- Album art covers (over USB port in the armrest)
- Bluetooth Audio - Office menu (for iPhone only Contacts are currently available, other phones can have text messages, Calendar, Tasks, Emails, etc.)
- Navigation map Satellite View
- New version of the Voice Control powered by Nuance including One-Shot Destination Entry feature
- Internet and BMW Live* (Optional. Please check the available options)

It may be required to have your CIC head unit internal software updated to the latest version for the Combox compatibility. Check with one of our specialists if you unsure about your CIC software version.

No. You need Navigation:

http://bimmerretrofit.com/store/inde...&product_id=94

Combox Media (with Plug and Play option)

Pre-requisites:
  • CIC navigation system (SA609),
  • Bluetooth (option SA633, SA644 or SA639). If your vehicle is not equipped with Bluetooth, you will need a special “Wiring Set”, which includes: Optical MOST wiring, Bluetooth antenna and cable, as well as “Microphone”.
  • USB/AUX in the armrest (SA6FL). To take the most advantage of Combox Media, you will need this option to connect and charge your phone. If Bluetooth audio streaming is the only option that you require, and you will not need to charge your phone, you can ignore this pre-requisite.

Having to retrofit a full NBT Navigation System just to get Combox is overkill.

Maybe look at after market solutions like Dice (Audiovox) MediaBridge or something, which integrates with the iDrive / Steering Wheel Controls:

Hi Shawn,

Spoke to the guys at bimmerretrofit (Guys in Toronto). They said i dont need the Navi (609) for the combox media retrofit. I wont have the navi features but everything else. I'm sort of confused now. Are they wrong in stating that? I was told 2012 HU needs fw update and coding to integrate the combox media. Any idea?

Thx

Their own website for F30, which I posted the link to, states otherwise. I'd ask them specifically what determines if a car requires 609 NAV versus not requiring 609 Nav when it comes to retrofitting Combox.

Did u talk to Kate? They told me just like Sean $3000 expense to dinky tooth audio only after I add navigation;(
Why the heck they would tell you any thing different? Unless they have configured or invent some thing different currently that clients don't know?

No. I spoke to someone called Jarek, a dealer for them in Toronto (JR Auto Chiptuning), I got their number from bimmerretrofit.com. Provided my VIN for them to verify. They got back to me saying it can be installed. I sent them an email after reading what you guys told me. They got back to me just now saying its not an issue and it can be installed with my HU. I have attached their response.

1) By the way, i was told that i cant get the Combox Media installed without Navigation, is that true? My car doesn't have navigation. It's a basic iDrive. Can you verify please.

Yes, You can have it installed- We checked it already

2) Would i have to remove the Combox every time i take the car to the dealer if they need to program the car?

It depends on many factors: first of all depends on dealer - if they compare list of equipment with original then they may refuse to service, secondly it depends on the other fitted equipment. It is only possible to say for sure after coding is done.
BTW: You don’t need to go to the dealer to have the car programmed- You can bring the car to our shop.

So i'm really confused. Are these guys correct? A buddy of mine also took his E90 to these guys for a retrofit an he stands by them. Any advice guys.

Pre-Requisites only apply if additional navigation functions available through combox media, according to the guys at JR Auto Electronics. I was told i will get bluetooth audio, Album Art, Voice control, Office and BMW Live (which i'm not activating as i plan to activate by coding, didn't want to spend an additional $150 for just that )

My Car is 2012 F30 320i, Not a 2013. with Base HU and 6NH. Nothing else.

There are 2 major types of standard headunit (i.e. no-nav) fitted to the F30 - one with built-in BT hardware and one without. If u order standard BT (i.e. 6NH) then the headunit fitted to ur car will have BT hardware built-in. If u order with enhanced BT/BMW Assist (6NK/6NL) then the headunit doesn't have built-in BT hardware (this option combination is not available in USA, not sure abt CDN). It's not clear for the latter case whether it's simply BT hardware disabled within the HU or it's totally absent, but the part numbers for the standard HU is different if u have 6NH compared to 6NK/NL.
So if u want to install combox to standard HU u don't need to install 609 as well, but at the very least u have to source a EU/ROW spec 6NK/NL-compatible standard headunit, & that means u'll lose ur satradio.

So does that mean i have to swap out my Headunit? mine is just a base with 6NH. I am taking the car to them next week when i'm back in Toronto. I hope i can get this fitted.

This thing is becoming awfully confusing.
Not only one , two retrofit people told us same thing, pre requisit navigation;(
I wish some one from bimmerretrofit shall address that directly on this thread.

Yes, u have to swap unless there's some way to disable the built-in BT hardware (or fool the system into thinking it isn't there).
Someone here already tried installing combox straight onto a unmodded 6NH headunit, without success.
Another thing, u'll lose the ability to import/export driver profiles via USB if u fit combox w/standard HU, that's cos the USB is physically connected to the combox in this case & not to the HU. It's a design quirk not related to retrofitment.

It's not that confusing once u've sussed out the various hardware config combinations available in different markets.

I've been trying to enable that for the past 3 months with no success. There are options like DUN_PROFILE and BT_DATA PROFILE on HU_CIC and even with enabling those, it doesn't do anything.

Do they have that in Hong Kong?

Same result here. We don't have BT data transfer enabled from the factory & I don't think anyone has been successful turning it on (our cars have non-nav+6NK+6NF as standard equipment).

I believe for normal HU_CIC (with prof nav) the settings in the HU_CIC won't help with BT data transfer, HU_CIC simply just control what you can see on the screen itself.

BT data transfer should rest in the combox.

For those option you mention, DUN_PROFILE, BT_DATA_SERVICE are all not active.

I've enabled a bunch of similar options on COMBOX_MEDIA as well with no luck. I guess I'll try and look for someone's SALAPA element from the UK and see if I can cross reference it to mine.

Saw something interesting in KOMBI today:

DIG_KVA_BEREICH
Kommentar=Dieser Wert bestimmt den Endausschlag von der digitalen KVA Anzeige. Aufloesung in 1L pro 100km. Der mpg Wert wird entsprechend umgerechnet

Comment = This value determines the full-scale deflection from the digital display KVA. resolution in 1L per 100km. The mpg value is accordingly converted

Default setting: 20_l/100km, Werte 14
Other option available is 30_l/100km, Werte 1E

I'm guessing this change the graph shown on extended cluster which currently max out at 20L
