You've seen the comparisons between the BMW 4 Series Coupe and the E92 3 Series and Mercedes C Class, not have a look a BMW's newest coupe against the Audi A5 and S5, the 4 Series' closest and strongest competitor.

As you can see in the tables below, the specs between BMW's and Audi's midsize coupes are very similar in performance (for the 435i and S5) and each have nearly identical physical measurements, except weight and weight distribution.

A5 wins on the direct front look but 4 Series wins on everything else. The 4 coupe just looks sportier overall. A5 looks like a big metal slab when you see these two side by side.

Thx for the comparison I've been waiting for this one. Very revealing to me.

BMW engines are just impressive. Even with the 300/300 setup the lighter 35i gives the S5 a run for its money.

Motorweeks method of getting 0-60 numbers may be different from other mags so going by the 1/4 mile numbers:

S5 13.4@105
S4 13.2@106

http://www.motorweek.org/reviews/roa...sedan_s5_coupe

The slower (relative to x drive) 335i RWD has already been tracked at 13.5@104.

Pretty impressive considering the N55 at 300/300 is down on power.

Someone asked about a weight distribution comparison, so I've added the 435i vs. S5 stats above.

Is it fair to add the weight as well. Would it be too much information if you added x drive to the comparison?

Isn't it 5.7 sec to 60 mph for the 428i?

I have been saying this for such a long time, they need a refresh soon..

Honestly, side by side, each angle, I like the 4 better, looks way more sportier, and the 'bimmer rangs' actually add some nice flare to the fenders compared to the Audi's boring fender.

Jason, can you do a camparo of the production 4 and the 4 coupe concept? Be interesting to see what changed from the concept to the production vehicle.

A5 looks feminine/heavy next the the 4 series. Anyway never was a fan of audis or their grills. So the 4 easily wins for me.

I know I am partial as are most people on this board, but the 4 just looks so much better than either major competitor (A5/C-Class)...

BMW has a way of making timeless designed cars, Audi's and MB's that are not very old look so dated already. Meanwhile my 10 year old e46 and my friends 6 year old e90 still look great!

Wow, the 4er really does look WAY better. Love the quad pipes on the S5, though. Thanks for the comparison!

That Audi interior is getting really too old. A4, A5, Q7 and TT quickly need successors with updated styling and interior a la A3 and A6 to keep up with merc and bmw.

This comparison is the first time I prefer another coupe over the A5's exterior styling.
Also love those interior trim extensions on the doors.

Definetly considering the 4 series as next car! Just have to find a way to put my ski's, bike and dive gear in it :-)

That old a5 looks like the same generation with the new 4 series.

If audi is pulling a nice a5 next year then its a burrial for bmw.

I said this before, the layout of the audi interior is inferior to BMW. Their interiors look ancient in a short space of time

Audi has a classy bumper, no line on the hood and a nice navigation in the dash.
I even like the Audi's rear bumper with clean taillights and nice exhaust pipes. BMW is stuck on the past.
I never thought that I will say this..
Too bad...

The Audi's exterior curves flow better IMO.
