2013 vs 2014 335i - Differences?

Hello all,

Currently debating between a 335 and 550, but was wondering what differences there are (if any) between a 2013 and 2014 model.

Thanks!

NBT, launch control, and sailing/coasting.

This.

I like my 2013, but the CIC iDrive is starting to show its age. Go for a 2014 or newer, OP.

OK, so the big thing is if I go 2013, make sure it is a later model with the NBT interface? Otherwise 2014? Is there an easy way to distinguish which interface it has?

Thanks!

Just curious, what's it like when sailing/coasting engages?

I coded launch control (not yet tested) to my 2013, but not sailing/coasting unless it comes bundled with the lc coding?

I debated this and ended up with a 2014 for the following reasons:
1. At least in Canada the 2013 only had a "sport" version, while the 2014 had the m-sport, which IMO was much better looking
2. At the time the cost differential was pretty low (<$800 over entire lease). Either lease the 2013 and get a lower residual with lower interest or get the 2014 with a higher residual but higher interest.
3. Idrive was updated
4. launch control

it will always be the new version of idrive or contral system in the new cars. I would pick 2013 if there is a price difference. If not, pick 2014 newer is always better...at most of the time. lol

NBT will have the touchpad iDrive controller that recognizes letters and numbers. It's larger than the CIC, and should be easy to spot.

I'm pretty sure the first point is not correct. I have a 2013 car with M Sport. It was only 2012 where it wasn't available.

I don't believe a 2013 car can get NBT in North America. My car is a May 2013 build (right before the 2014 cars rolled out) and the only option was CIC.

+1. The controller has a touch pad and is significantly bigger. You definitely won't mix them up.

You may be correct. At the time of purchase the SA was saying the m-sport was not available, but that may have been due to what ever was left in inventory for the 2013 model year.

It only engages when in eco pro mode. When you take your foot off the accelerator it will engage. You don't feel anything but the rpms will drop to around 800 or so, just as if the car was put in neutral. Stepping on the gas will disengage sailing and the car will accelerate again. It's all pretty seamless, but I hardly use eco pro so I don't see the benifit.

Apart from the revs on the dash, you can actually feel the car coasting in neutral... if that makes sense? Any type of acceleration OR braking seems to throw it back into gear, which you should feel.

i actually find myself using eco pro more or as much as comfort.

NBT came with the 2013 3-series Active Hybrid only then hit all the models with MY 2014.

OP asked about 335 vs 550. F10 5 series has NBT (no touchpad) for MY13.
