I'm an idiot. Help.

Used the wrong size socket to remove the negative battery terminal and now the socket is stuck. Any tips?

Grab some vice grips and lock onto the socket. Then with the other hand, gently tap on the terminal with handle of a screwdriver.

hit it with an impact in reverse. If that doesnt work, tighten it down fairly good, then reverse it with a hit or two and itll break loose.

hahaha yep done that one too. I would try tapping it while turning it in the opposite direction that you did to get here. If that doesn't work then I would definitely try the impact wrench thing someone else mentioned. It will come off just be persistent.

hope that help,

That obviously happened while you were loosening the bolt. Try putting the connector/clamp back onto the battery terminal and tighten the bolt and it should snap back out since you're applying torque in the opposite direction of when it got stuck.

Garage List
This is very simple...
1. Remove the bolt with the socket in tact
2. Hold the socket around it's circumference with a vice grip or pliers if you don't have a good grip, a bench vice would be best
3. Use a screwdriver to push down or hammer on the bolt through the socket attachment opening as indicated by the arrow below. It usually goes through the entire socket.
4. Profit???

Thanks for the tip, but read post #3. Been there, done that. Used a vice grip (roommate held that) while I hammed away. SOB is stuck on there good!

Oh my bad How much did you torque this damn thing... LOL

Did you try applying any penetrating oil? May give it some lubrication. Only other option is heating like someone else mentioned, maybe even with just a heat gun if you have one lying around.

If heating it doesn't help, I think you're better off just leaving the socket on there. You'll never have to use another socket to remove your battery terminal again

if you have taken it completely off the screw then using a larger diameter socket ( one that the current socket will not fit into but the nut will place them one on top of the other and using a screw driver or similar smack that thing good it will come out.

WD-40 shot from the top and visegrips around the socket with maybe latex glove between metal and visegrips for maximum grip.
