Yes, but only because every 328 comes with the same brakes, suspension, steering and wheels.
Now if only there were ways to customize those things so it wouldnt suck...

Why did you spend $40K+ on a car with lousy handling and brakes? Didn't you thoroughly test drive it before purchase?

Difficult to tell whether this is, as it appears, just troll-bait, but I'll bite: No, I do not agree. The stock brakes are absolutely phenomenal. The handling is very good, although my car (x-drive without DHP) rolls like a boat under high-speed heavy cornering. At normal (non-maniac) speeds, the car sticks to the road, carves turns like a pro-skiier, and stops on a dime.
Is it as good as my E46 M3? Not even in the same league. But for an entry-level performance euro-sedan, it is awesome. Last edited by rjc32000; 12-22-2014 at 03:04 PM.. |

car history
VW VR6 Mk3 Jetta - great engine, relatively soft suspension. Engine overpowers the car dynamics. VW 1.8T Mk4 Jetta - tuned and coils, great all around car. Poor man's BMW until.... BMW E46 330xi - same era as the Mk4 Jetta and was noticeably better on all accounts (suspension, ride, solidity, engine) MINI Cooper - great handling...period! BMW E60 545i RWD - great engine and over all fun + solid large sedan ...FYI 6MT BMW F30 328i RWD - MPS/MPE/non-RFT, 6MT and it's now my favorite of all the above. not the fastest nor best handling, but just a really good car and perfect size. It may not have the best engine, nor best steering, but it does have the best brakes. It may not have had the best stock suspension, but the MPS is a perfect balance for ride and handling. As you can see it's not the sum of parts that makes the 328i. when tuned to your tastes, it is a very good all around car. |

That's definitely true. It just isn't possible to learn all of a car's features and flaws in a test drive, unless your CA lets you do test drives at the track!
But I am kind of surprised at your disappointment. I've found the brakes to be just incredible. And the handling was dramatically improved once I traded in the run flats for a set of Potenza RE-11s. I do have the M sport line, and have heard that these cars use different brake pads than other lines. No idea if this is true or not (and I'm sure someone will quickly correct me if I'm wrong), but you might consider new pads and new rubber on all four corners and see if you aren't a little happier. Since "sucking" is always a matter of degree, what car are you comparing it to? |

I traded a 2012 JCW Clubman on my 328i. I have had a few 3 Series loan cars while my JCW was in multiple times for repairs. I had a 320D for a month.
Recently for the first time I got a 320i as loan car. Ok I was impressed this is a much better drive than a 320D so I thought maybe a 328i is worth a look. Almost 2 weeks on since delivery of the 328i my observations are... Handling clearly not as sharp as the JCW but I find it a good handler FWD vs RWD I have always liked RWD handling but my time with the JCW showed how good a FWD can be. But I do like how the 328i handles however it will never be as good as the JCW in the mountains. Brakes JCW little car BIg Brembo's the 328i looses that one. Power in a straight line...328i wins that hands down. I like the 328i I like comfort the handling the power but the brakes could do with some improvement. |

Really? If the handling and brakes "suck" as bad as you say, you should have been able to know that in less than five minutes. Was your test drive around the dealership's parking lot? Do you know or care to know whether you have a no-line base model or not? Are you a troll?

I have a 428i msport/DHP and I think braking, acceleration and handing are great. Overtaking cars on the highway is effortless, I see them disappearing in my rear view. while other cars are slowing down, I'm accelerating through turns... who knows what trouble I'd get myself into if I had a 3/435

You came from an E60 with ~330HP. The F30 is as big as the E60, but with probably cushier suspension (unless you opted for sport/DHP), and about 70 less HP.
The brake pedal has a different feel, but braking power is certainly there. |

Unless I'm mistaken, the person who came from the E60 wasn't the OP.

When you leased the car YOU HAD TO HAVE KNOWN that there were upgrades available and yet you chose the lowest / stock equipment.
You got a smaller motor and you didn't opt for the M-Sport brakes or the DHP and probably A/S tires on 17" rims. edit: I see you didn't complain about the motor / power. |

Nobody told us that you have to make sure to order the 704 or DHP to make your BMW a sport sedan. Some of us just figured it out or read enough on here to be able to know. For a guy walking into a dealer to buy a car, I'm not sure how he would know. Most of the CAs don't know either. OP - sorry if you got an underspecced BMW. They aren't all like that.

I have M-Sport standard suspension (not Adaptive) and standard brakes, and to me and how I drive, they are fine. I had a Camry before this car, and it's chalk and cheese. My wife still drives a Camry, and it's chalk and cheese with that too. I can't comment on ANY other BMW, as this is my first and I love it's handling, transmission, power, braking, gadgets. But yeah... each to their own really. You're allowed to hate it |

Didnt people test drive their cars before they got them? When I did the un4gettable event I abused the 428 GC to the fullest, did things I would never do on a dealer test drive. I knew what to expect.
