Hey Raspartan,

How did you do the code?

Can you code mine when I get it?

I seem to remember reading that the US models don't have the badges by default. I could have opted to have them removed, but decided against it.

I built a cable and coded it myself! Let me know when you get your car.

Ah makes sense. So how does this coding thing work? What all can recode with this cable?

You need to build or buy a cable and download the software first. In theory it is possible to change any software setting that doesn't require additional hardware installed. The catch is that the settings aren't documented and we have to discover them through trial and error. You should check out Svache's excellent coding thread.

On this note, the remote closure actually came in useful yesterday when the skies opened up suddenly. I was able to close the windows from the safety of the house!

I did discover one thing however: Holding the remote lock will not roll the windows up if it's already locked. You have to unlock the car first. Just something to keep in mind.

Can you do this coding ( foldong mirrors, etc) on a 328 also? Do you need any specific packages such as premium , etc to be able to do this?

Oh nice that's an awesome feature! Why wouldn't BMW just do this? Or allow you to custom configure these features. How hard is this to do? And what happens if I take my car in for service and they update my car for example, will it delete the coding?

Yeah I def understand that, but they could have let us play with the tps readouts, or the auto fold mirrors on open/close.

I definetely agree about soome things are just not necessary like video in motion, I think thats just a huge distraction, an accident waiting to happen.

Beautiful car. I pick up my Black Sapphire Metallic Sport Line this Saturday and I am extremely excited.

I got the exact same interior as you. How do you like the piano black accents now that you've had the car for a month+? I love the look, but I'm starting to wonder if fingerprints are going to torment my OCD.

As to why they don't provide these features by default, it's anyone's guess but I'd say it's the fear of litigation in North America.

As for difficulty, I'd say not too difficult but that would depends on your background and technical prowess. There is an initial learning hump to get over however that some might find unpleasant. And you do have to buy or build a cable.

My understanding is that you will have to recode if the service department updates the module where you made the change. From that perspective it might be more convenient if you were doing the coding yourself.

Last but not least there is a risk of screwing up your car if something goes wrong.

Surprisingly I don't get many fingerprints. I do get dust on the black trim however, which drives me nuts. I keep a microfiber cloth in the armrest for those occasions when my own OCD threshold is reached.

Although the anti-pinch features should prevent this. And anyway, the feature is enabled in Europe so the risks ought to be the same really. It's just baffling.
