I'm writing this from my 328i awaiting tow to dealer. Was making left turn and completed turn when the drivetrain malfunction alert appeared, the car shook and we rolled fortunately into a parking lot. Now car starts but shutters and then drops to an idle state with no ability to shift even into neutral.

When you say the car rolled into a parking lot, do you mean that you were not able to use the brakes and had no control of the car?

That's correct. The brakes became super tense. And essentially it slowed to a stop. Two hours of waiting for BMW roadside. They just arrived. Tow guy says "very common in these cars". And I should add its. 2013 with 5,200 miles

Ah, the "tow guy" said it was "very common in these cars". For all he knew, it could have been a Lexus. Let BMW diagnose what's wrong, especially since it's under warranty.

They certainly now that it's at the dealership. I only give stock to the driver because as one of BMW's providers he's more likely to see more BMWs proportionately.

Things happen with all cars at all ages. More importantly to me was the fact that it took so long to get the tow.

Same thing happened to my dads 2008 x5 4.8i, car stalled throttle was dead and smoke coming from engine. The tow took roughly 2 hours to arrive so my dad just called his buddy and ditched the car, keys and a notice inside the car and left it on the highway lol

To Op:Sorry man. Lets hope its an isolated issue and they get you fixed up really quick
