I took this photo awhile back. Needless to say it's gotten worse now and the color is defiantly different than the body of my car. Dealer says they want $160 to paint it. Anybody else got the manufacturer to cover this with warranty? I mean for goodness sake if my car changed colors would they tell me it's not their problem?

My understanding is that the fog light covers on the modern line are not painted but just gloss black plastic. You can buy them online from real oem or a few other places for like $25 bucks each side.

Those fog light covers are SO cheap... all the more reason the dealer should be quick to fix this for you. I purchased a pair to try to fit onto my baseline bumper, but I failed to get a proper fit even after removing parts of the trim using a multi-tool. They were a very nice gloss black. That is very strange they would not warranty a factory part that has changed color... How far past your warranty are you? -WL |

OP, above all be courteous, polite, and patient. They will find it easier to guide you to the door if you start raising hell.
Explain to them that you feel this is no different than if the door panel warped and turned blue. Ask them to park another sport line next to your vehicle and look at the difference. If your SA is not of any help, ask to schedule an appointment with the service manager or director. Do your homework on the warranty policy regarding trim pieces. Do not try to tell them how to do their job, but steer them towards the clause you find that may help you. If all else fails, thank them for their time and let them know you will have to go to another dealership to get a second opinion. They may change their mind if they know they will lose future business. After my issue with BMW service regarding my trunk spoiler that fell off I am extremely disappointed, however not at all surprised, to hear this story.... Very, very poor service. |

They are gloss black. I'm wondering if the color of the OP's car is causing the optical illusion of making his look blue. I'd suggest comparing his set to another car.

Had the car in for some service this week and pointed the trim out to the dealer. When I picked the car up, I noticed on the work order that the "trim pieces are gloss black and there is no flaw in the workmanship."
After reading that, I politely grabbed a SA and asked her what she thought. Pretty soon I had 3 SA's around me all in shock how noticeable the blue was compared to the black. They showed the Manager and he agreed to fix the parts and have them painted back to gloss black! Hats off to United BMW of Roswell! |
