N26 Dinan Stage 1 Tune Help

Making a new thread so I don't take over SoCalDave thread anymore lol, sorry again man.

Anyhow, I finally got my Dinan Stage 1 tune installed today. The problem is I don't feel a difference at all. From the reviews I've been reading about it on here, they all say good things about it. Saying things like there is more power everywhere, or it's like they dropped a 435i engine into the 428i.

I don't understand this at all. The service tech was on the phone with Dinan, trying to figure out what the reasoning behind this was. The Dinan Tech was saying this is normal and it's really not that big of an increase in power to notice. Idk about that 295hp and 327tq is enough for me to notice... if that was the case, why does the 60hp and 40tq increase on the 435i feel so different, but not this tune. I completely understand they are two different engines but my car should not feel the same as stock with the tune.

To prove my point further, I let another service tech drive my car, then we drove a stock 428i from the lot. They drove the same, the tech was just as puzzled as I was.

I left my car at the dealership again for the night, and kept the loaner car for another day, while they try and see if they can fix this tomorrow with Dinan. Maybe I don't feel it because they loaned me a 535i... I really hope they can fix this tomorrow or the tune is going back to Dinan, so I can get my money back. Any input or help is greatly appreciated. Oh and yes the dealership is a Dinan Authorized one.

Most likely the software wasn't activated and was in bypass mode or wasn't loaded properly. You should definitely be able to tell between tune and no tune.

I'm hoping that's reason... I called Dinan today, waiting on a reply back... I really hope they can fix this. Thank you for the help.

Looks like I'm keeping the loaner another day. I've been talking with Dinan and the dealership all day. Dinan is overnighting a special diagnostic tool to measure the power the car is putting out. We will see what happens tomorrow. There customer support is absolutely superb.

the best way to tell is throwing the car on a dyno.

i felt a difference in my BMS tune right away...and i think the gains are almost equal to the Dinan.

There was something off when we tested the car two days ago. Today though I went to the dealership and everything about the engine was different.

When the service tech turned on the engine, it sounded meaner and less like 4 cylinder. Next was the exhaust it got just a little more deeper. The drive was amazing. Not as much power as I was hoping for, but then again I have the N26 and I'm on 91 octane not 93. We only have 91 in Cali.

The drive was amazing, I can actually use ECO Pro now. Comfort feels the same with a little more power and Sport pulls now for sure. Just overall the car is way more responsive. I'm enjoying it!

Dinan_Engineering Thank you for the help! Tell Dan and Joe thanks as well. Your customer support is awesome.

Yes it is! No I don't. The car just worked differently when I went back to pick it up. On a side note though. The tool that measures the boost from Dinan, said I was putting out 25PSI... I don't recall that being right (someone correct me if I'm wrong). I think it's suppose to be putting out 21 or something along those lines with the tune installed.

Yeah, it doesn't sound right at 25lbs. Bad things will happen at that level I believe. 21-ish is probably more accurate.........

Maybe the tool was just giving an error in the reading... My car would tell me if it was too much boost wouldn't it? Maybe like a CEL or something?

yeah, it might throw a code like Stubok got.

You should get the dash command/torque pro apps for your phone. I know dash command has a boost 'gauge' that will let you monitor vitals..

If you have adaptive suspension put the steering and sport suspension on together and that will make a major difference with the tune and put it on Sport....

Yeah I notice a huge difference in ECO PRO and Sport mode. Comfort feels about the same. I don't have the adaptive suspension, just the M Sport Suspension.

Thats good to hear that everything got sorted out, please do report back when you get some more miles on the tune. I'm interested to hear long term drivability reports.

I've had the tune for about a week and have played around with it a bit... Whatever questions you have, shoot them at me and I will try to answer them. I know I'm not putting the tune to its full potential, because there's no 93 octane gas out here, only 91.

The car handles very OEM like. ECO PRO has so much pull now. Rarely goes over 2000rpms. If I do it will go to 2500, never seen it go above 2500. Comfort doesn't change a lot really. I was kind of disappointed about that. Sport is like OEM Sport, but with more power. There is this roller coaster feeling in the seats. It's like your gliding along the road effortlessly. I did a full kickdown earlier this week. The car is defiantly faster than stock. I really wish we had 93 octane out here. The tune gives me the power I need for now , until my lease is up and I can get the 435i.

did you need to drive for a certain "x" number of miles before you felt the power and torque difference? I'm getting one today and I can't wait! Thanks

Well initially, we drove the vehicle and didn't feel a difference, so I left my car at the dealership for two more days. When I came back, I could immediately notice a difference when the tech started my engine. It sounded like a 435i.

Some notes from a little more driving this weekend. There's a huge difference in the sound of the exhaust and engine note, when switching driving modes. ECO PRO is the quietest, with Sport being the loudest. Comfort sounds like ECO PRO with a little more noise. When revving the engine up in sport mode it truly feels like a 435i. The engine sounds rough and aggressive. The exhaust is louder and you hear more engine noise than turbo. Sport mode just pulls effortlessly. I was doing over 100 this weekend on the highway and didn't even know it. Had to slow down real quick haha.

I've also noticed my gas mileage has gone down a lot. Which is to be expected since I'm driving th car more and the tune uses more boost. I have to fill my car up just about every week now. I might be able to get a week and half if I stay in ECO PRO and comfort. Overall I'm throughly satisfied with the tune.
