Opti-Coat and Optimum No-Rinse

I have always been a fan of the two bucket suds and hose method for years, and kept my car relatively swirl-free... when I moved to the 328i, I tried a new method. I had my car Opticoated locally for a good price and now I wash with Optimum No-rinse. Originally stuck with the 2 bucket method still but I came across this:

and have been doing it in my garage with just a bucket of water and some microfiber towels. I have to say, it's amazing - quick and easy, stay warm inside, no swirl marks, FAST, and easy cleanup...

I'll keep this thread updated in the future if I run into any issues but so far after 3-4 washes all has been great.

As for the opti-coat - Not sure how well it works, but I have no swirls after 6k miles and its either the coat or the wash method that has been helping. The car also looks nice and waxy right after a wash.

ONR Rocks... Gary Dean's method is pretty decent. Where it breaks-down is if your car is extremely dirty. Also, I wouldn't wring-out the wash towel as he does in the video above. You want the maximum amount of ONR on the towel to help encapsulate the dirt particles.

Here's the man himself explaining it. Yes, he pushes his own detailing "juice" in the beginning, but just ignore it

LOL.. I had the same reaction when I bought it. Originally I picked it up just to wash when it's cold out. Now it's my year round wash.

Opticoat and ONR is a great combo and so easy.

Everytime I see one of my neighbors washing their cars the old way, wasting all of that water, I go show them the modern way to do it.

How is the ONR without Opticoat? Will it scratch up the clearcoat over time?

No.. onr can be used without.. it's not made specifically for opt-coat. It won't scratch the clearcoat any more than other products. Good was technique is essential though.

Are you guys using the wash & shine, or the wash & wax? Also, if you have used both, what are your opinions? I just bought some wash & shine, then noticed the wash & wax and was wondering if I should get some of that too.

I think the Wash and Wax is a brand new product, so I have not had a chance to try it yet.

As far as the cost of the opti-coat... dealer didn't offer it, I had someone local do it for $200-300

Yup Optimum No Rinse been selling it for quite sometime.

Its really does a great job!

Is there really a good reason to use wash & shine versus wash & wax? It seems to me that you would (nearly) always want to be waxing at the same time. Can somebody give me a few good examples of when/why you would want to use wash & shine versus wash & wax?

in different applications.

onr (without wax) for claying as well as prior to a compound and polishing
onr (without wax) when you want to apply a different sealant or wax
