335i Brakes squeal

Holy shit do they squeal! lol

I got the msport brakes 335 with the euro pads, an wow are they awesome. Noticeable better brakes than the 328 and better pedal feel but they squeal like a son of a bitch. Maybe they need to break in for a few hundred miles??? If they keep up i will take it into the dealer with a few other minor issues(rear windows dont go auto one touch up). Just noticed it today, not sure it happens always.

Msport 335 owners, do your brakes squeal?

Perhaps I can clear up some confusion on BMW's brake terminology ? The 335i M Sport comes with the standard 335i brakes, with one exception and that is the "euro pads". "M Sport brakes" are a separate $350 option, available only in Canada (in conjunction with 335i M Sport) or in Europe. M Sport brakes include larger rotors (370mm front) and blue painted M Performance brake callipers.

Unfortunately for the time being, this option is not available in the USA. However, to make things more confusing, M Performance brakes are available in the USA as a port installed option (approx. $2300). The only differences between M Sport and M Performance brakes are the latter ones have drilled/slotted rotors and either red or orange painted callipers instead of blue ones supplied with M Sport brakes. The front and rear rotors are the same diameter.

Sorry to hear that your brakes squeal. Have you tried any repeated rapid slow downs (60-5mph) in an attempt to bed down the pads ?

Hmmm.. Interesting. No squeal here. Its been really nice down here the past 2 days and I've been driving with the windows down. Have not heard a squeal yet. Will pay closer attention tomorrow.

More beta product from BMW?

Justin, drive on it for a few weeks. Give it a few hard pedal presses while warm and see if you can bed them properly.

If you take to Pines all they will do is apply some anti squeal crap and possibly lightly sand the pads. AKA a temp fix. Not worth a mechanic having his hands on your car so soon.

Drive normally for a couple hundred miles (not highway) and then bed them in properly. This should take care of it.

If not, have the dealer check the installation of the pads. They should not squeal, other than a fairly rare small squeak now and then.

I have put around 500 miles on my 335 msport so far. Also had massive break squeal during all 500 miles. Took it into the dealer and they are replacing the pads and rotors

High performance pads will squeal more - that's pretty much expected and standard.

With that said, google "how to pad high performance brake pads" and follow that routine...

For what it is worth, my 328 M Sport X drive squealed horribly for first 500-600 miles, despite being bedded a few days into ownership. The squeal, which only happened at low speed braking (pulling into garage, parking lots, moving ahead in traffic) gradually faded. I took it out today for another light break in, and it seems to have completely gone away. I've a little over 700 miles in the car now.

"high performance"...What does that mean? A friend has a 2010 911 (997) Turbo which does 0-60 in ~3 seconds and his brakes don't squeal one bit. They didn't when car was new either. I asked him today.

Plus I don't recall two people I know with E92 M3's having squeal issues. At least I never heard it and they never said so.

Where is this squealing pig coming from? This sounds so 1990's.

I have 1500 miles on my 335i and the squealing is getting louder and louder. It's the loudest when the brakes are cold. It only happens braking under 10mph, but damn it's really embarrassing! A brand new BMW that sounds like a 20 year old domestic pickup.

After driving for a while, the squealing goes away, but it shouldn't be doing this at all!

I'm going to contact my dealer.

claykin, I just have the msport breaks. The dealer tried bedding them a few times and it didn't work. I should have the car back on Tuesday and I will give an update.

When I picked up my car, another guy also picked up a 335i msport a day later and he has no break squeal at all.

I started a thread with a poll on this topic here:

Mine squeal very loudly and has gotten worse recently. It screeches at the last 5mph to 0.

My 335i M-Sport had squeaking brakes from mile one at pickup in Munich. I now have 600 miles on the car and it has gotten better but it has not gone away completely. The squeaking now only seems to happen when making a full stop.

its most noticeable to me between 10mph-0...maybe the only soultion to this is having the dealer give me m performance brakes

Ugh, looks like I spoke too soon: The squeal is back. Only at low speeds. Loud enough to be embarrassing at stop lights. I just don't buy that this is a function of "more aggressive" M Sport brake pads; my friend's TT RS has no such noise, and neither does my dad's 911. Both of those cars have absolutely wicked brakes, so I just can't accept that it is a standard "feature" of sportier pads. I certainly don't hear this sound when F1 cars pull up to their starting positions. This is a flaw, not a feature.

Sounds like the pads are faulty ! It will be interesting to see if this same problem occurs with M Sport brakes ( 335i- Canada and Europe only) and M Peformance brakes.
