NTFS formatted USB sticks work!
I have not seen this reported before, so if this is common knowledge, then I apologize in advance.
I don't know if the change was recent or not as I never tried it before, but my car does read NTFS formatted USB sticks! I recently got a 64GB USB stick formatted as exFAT32 and the car completely refuses to recognize it. Windows would not format the 64GB stick as FAT32 (it complains it's too big), so just for giggles, I formatted it as NTFS and tried it and it worked! I'm able to play music from this USB stick in the arm rest port and also import music from it in the glove box port! So now I have 64GB of music accessible to me while I drive; That's enough for a LOT of driving! |

It seems to be a bit hit and miss for some reason. My 2011 E91 never had any problem with FAT32 or NTFS while others over on the UK E9x section just didn't have any luck with NTFS. The F31 loan car I have at the moment also has no problem with NTFS.
I do wonder if it's something to do with the machine you do the formatting on but that doesn't really make any logical sense... |

I also have the latest "Bluetooth" 1006 update that you can download from BMW and install yourself. See: http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=783879 I have no idea which firmware implements NTFS as BMW doesn't document it publicly. If you haven't done so, try updating your Bluetooth software first because it's easy and quick. If you still can't read NTFS sticks, you'll need to take your car in to update your car's software. I think they are programming version 2.48.1 or .2 on F30's now. |

My HD is full (20gb?) and a 16 gb zip drive full. This is far more music that I would ever be able to listen to on a single trip. 64gb would be overkill for most people but maybe you drive more than me?

My CIC based HDD only provides 12GB of space to load music on. I use the HDD and my wife uses the memory stick. |
