Are there any cheap leases on Rs/GTIs at the moment? Been looking online but not seeing much, unless I'm looking with my eyes shut A pointer in the right direction would be appreciated.

Saw a Golf GTI for around £240 per month, select car leasing, not sure if it is the best deal out there but not too bad in my opinion!

No mega cheap deals at the moment. Were some very cheap GTi deals a couple of months ago but mainly on the horrible black/purple standard colour with the poor looking standard 18" wheels. Adding any extras bumps the cost quite a bit. Were also some decent cheap lease deals on the R estate, only challenge there was they are Rather a lot on the ugly side.

Chris did you take any before / after pics to show the drop after you put the Eibachs on?

I really do like what VAG have done with the display, makes them look bang up to date.
Sounds like you're enjoying the car. I must admit, I thinking about one to replace my 335d next year if I don't go down the Ranger/Navara route.

Active display is really cool although still prefer Audi's Virtual Cockpit. I will be collecting S5 soon and idea behind R was to make it a daily horse and use S5 for weekend blasts... well after 3 weeks of ownership not so sure about that , might as well ditch S5!

That's some praise indeed, the S5 looks superb from what I've seen, but as you say, no point if you're happy to reach for the 'R's keys.

S5 would not be a weekend blast fun car in my book. Steering in most Audi's is shocking. It's ok being a bit dead in an S8, but my guess is that you're right, the Golf would be more fun at anytime!

That said, I'd still take the S5 over the golf just for its looks, just not for a weekend blast only though.

Nowadays my weekend blasts are most of the time accompanied by better half so mainly trips to Cornwall or local shopping centers - me think S5 will fit perfectly .... Golf R is a daily used car for trashing etc. Back from long weekend in Cornwall with couple of friends (640d , f31 335d , c350d). Two things to report - shockingly low fuel consumption (avg 35 mpg) and absolute humiliation of other cars on Cornwall roads. I know , the others are not exactly sporty suspended cars but still all of them more powerful than Golf - I had to deliberately slow down so that other 3 cars could keep up. Love it!

hi mate I'm glad you are liking the R sounds a great car. I was in cornwall too around a month ago in the s5, stayed outside newquay. Some of the beaches there are just incredible, perrinporth, Porthcurno @ minack theatre, crantock, The s5 sportback was amazing there, apart from 24mpg lol. I'm sure you'll love lt, sounds amazing in dynamic mode and it looks stunning along with the interior. For me the handling and steering is great but probably not as good as the R from what I have read but thats for the RS5 perhaps. Plenty of room for my 18 month old in the back too.

PS is that exeter services?

Hard question sir , S8 gearbox will always feel smoother and quieter but that's due to overall better refinement of the car and specification of TC gearboxes - they use hydraulic fluid to transfer drive so gears are smoother and barely noticeable.... although sometimes S8 can be slow with gear change or engaging the wrong (too low) gear halfway through turn or corner - very annoying but happens sporadically - we talking about comfort settings now.

DSG is more than adequate for daily driving in comfort - 99 prc. of the time right gear is selected , no hesitation , no drama , gear changes are noticeable but that's actually a good thing oh and DSG is pretty smooth must say!

Now, in aggressive settings.... well no contest really. I am using paddles constantly on R which shows just how much fun and enjoyment the 7spd DSG is (do not use them on S8). Approaching fast right , double - tap , 2 gears down , cracks from exhaust and then pedal to the metal on the way out

Been testing 0-60 times yesterday with my brother...well R got 4.3s! (no vbox , gps based app). Next week adding all toys - updates to follow.

I could not put it better myself .... oh and it will be 7 minutes later not 10 - this is how quick R is even in comfort auto.

Ciscopete / Brigand - a little flavour of what to expect once you've strapped on your JB4.

Tested out launch control for the first time tonight. Check out the link and maximise the window.

My GPS car data logging app recorded 0-60 in 3.9 seconds....

Never used the app when I had my 335d actually, either stock or with tuning box.

But I don't need to run any data logging to know JB4 Golf R is noticeably quicker in a straightline than DTUK/Bluespark etc. 335d.

I did a couple of similar videos 0-100mph when I had my 335d and compared to the JB4 R was probably 0.5 secs slower to 60mph and 1-1.5 seconds slower to mph.

Appears some reasonable deals have reappeared on these for the start of Q3; not sure how long they'll be around for though....

https://www.whatcar.com/car-leasing/...ce_id=17041574

ETA: The price was showing as £265/month including VAT on a 3 +23 deal (8k miles/annum); however, seems to have disappeared already!

Yes I saw that; numbers looked quite similar when the different levels of deposit were taken into account albeit the deal I spotted was 8k miles not 10kmiles/annum!

However, I get the impression there aren't many cars available and hence the offers are getting pulled quite quickly. The one I posted the link to had gone within a couple of hours and I daresay if it's still available the Vehicles 4 Work offer won't be around for much longer either!

I wonder how genuine these deals are and whether they are actually just designed to get people to reply to them, so the companies have your email and phone numbers and can try and flog you a deal at a higher cost.

Maybe I'm just suspicious.
