Return lease with bubble in tire, but have w&t insurance

I have a question about lease returns, my lease is ending next month and I'm about to turn in my car when I noticed I developed bubbles in the sidewalls of 2 tires.

Since I have wheel and tire insurance I would normally take a trip to the dealer, and they would charge me the $50 deductible for the new tires.
But since I don't have time to get to the dealer, what would happen if I turn in the car with these bubbles?

Would they charge me full price for the tires or just the usual $50 deductible, since I have BMW Wheel and Tire insurance?

Thanks for the help

Why don't you call the lease guy/girl at the dealer you are turning the car in at to see what they say.

Seems like they have a lot of latitude on what they will do on turn in. They are way more customer friendly if you have a new one coming through them.

That said I don't think I would drive around for two months on bad tires.

I too wouldn't want to ride around on tires w/ bubbles in them. Have you used the tire and wheel insurance at all yet? If not, what I would do is find 2 "decent" used tires, same make and tread depth to turn the car in with, and then cancel the insurance for a (pro-rated?) refund. If you have used the insurance already, might as well use it again now.

OP, bubbles in sidewalls are serious business. I wouldn't drive around 2 HOURS with a bubbling sidewall, let alone a month. There's no telling when that sidewall will rupture.

Get them replaced NOW. If you don't pay the $50 tire deductible now you'll be paying your full insurance deductible after you lose control and skid off the road.

I usually put some duct tape over the bubble to prevent it from leaking air when it ruptures.

+1. Risk your life and damage to the car to save $100 and OP "doesn't have time"? Bad move.

Not a good place for sarcasm, someone might actually do that.

Are OE tire sidewall bubbles even covered under the standard 50k mile warranty?

Damage or wear to tires are not covered under any new car warranty.

However, manufacturing defects are...

I suppose the issue is how to do you prove it was one or the other?

Could go either way, if the tires have been on the car a while, pretty easy for them to attribute it to external damage since a sidewall defect wouldn't last that long.

But it's all moot, as he has the tire/wheel coverage.

Bubbles in a sidewall are very dangerous. Instead of a flat you could get total tire failure. In the worst case the tread completely separates from the tire. If driving fast, and on either of the steering wheels, the car could pull to one side violently potentially causing a crash. On the rear, the tire rips off, then you're driving on a raw wheel and the wheel will need replacement. That will be quite pricey.

Suggest you dump those tires today.

Remember the Ford/Firestone issue where tires failed and SUVs flipped over?

Have them replaced, throw them on the back and enjoy a little drift action, burnouts and launching!
