I used the advice given here - http://www.legalbeagles.info/forums/...ment-*UPDATED*

and their email template, which was responded to by BMW next working day.

Thanks. I'm actually on that site at the moment! Seem to be a lot of people there go down the VT route having gone way over their agreed mileage and then get into a fight with the finance company. I'm about 10K under so not a problem.

Thanks for the info - and thanks to an epic (well-known) sales chap who re-submitted the finance and disassociated the current car with the new one... Now all I have to do is wait until I have a solid date for the new car then 'make the call'...

Interesting advice on VT and excess mileage charges.......

If I was to VT my current car, I'd be well over my agreed mileage. Still a good way away from VT point mind you

Fully loaded 340i Touring...

One question - I am £740 shy of 50% when I intend to do this - do I have to pay this as an overpayment and then VT or can I ask for VT and pay £740...

AFAIK you request your VT, then pay them the £740 in a lump sum

Seems like a quite a few are VT'ing their cars on here... Obviously you are walking away with nothing and it doesn't leave any mark on your credit history so you can start fresh with a new deal, but what it you have put down a larger deposit? That must be hard to stomach...
