Too much news?

Does anybody else feel like they watch and read the news too much?

Rolling coverage on sky and BBC, live updates and apps on the phone, let’s face facts most of it is pretty miserable stuff, I’ve started to feel like it just puts a downer on me because most of it I’d rather not know.

I’m going to delete the apps and stay away from it for a while and see how I get on.

Definitely agree with this. My wife has scaled back her news consumption and feels a lot better for it. For those of us with kids it also sets a good example of not filling every spare second checking your phone too.

Not so much too much news, just too much bollox information that they think is news.

Who really fucking cares if some celeb is getting divorced, been shagging someone else, etc etc.

It's information overload that tends (deliberately at times) to mask the real stories that do impact on people's lives either directly or indirectly.

I deleted the apps, it's meant I've spent less time on my phone which according to the Mrs can only be a good thing.

I found it's just become a habit and continually reading negative stuff cannot be good, I'm fucking sick to death of hearing the work Brexit for a start and looking at salad fingers Maybot, she makes me sick.

We record the 10 o'clock and local news each evening so we can watch the headlines before we go to bed. We only watch further if there is anything interesting.

I also have the BBC news app on my phone with the notifications turned off and will sometimes look at this for more local content.

For anybody who may be arsed, I haven't watched or read a single news item since I posted this and it was surprisingly easy to do.

1) Do I miss it? No

2) Am I curious? No

It's funny how you hear people talking about stuff, I believe there was a crash in Birmingham and something happened in Australia, terror related.

I've not heard the word Brexit once, shows how much other people really give a shit I suppose.

Stopped watching it. Too much negativity. It is depressing. There seldom seems to be something positive to report on. Most of it is guess what war Trump wants to start, cyber attacks, school shootings, accidents... all this calamity in the world. I can't remember the last time I watched or read something and thought that is a good news article... wish there were more articles like that.

I’ve still not seen, read or listened to any news, the only snippets are when my dad or father in law say “did you see....?”

At new year we had a gathering and somebody told me about the multi storey car park fire in Liverpool but that was only because it was local I guess.

Funnily enough most people don’t seem interested in the news and it makes me wonder how much of a bore I’ve come across to others!
