So earlier in the year, we started thinking about a new car. My wife was pregnant and we knew we would soon outgrow our E90. We played around with a number of ideas, from a Q5, to an E350 wagon, to an A7. We finally decided we liked what the F31 offered, so the next question was what color to get. Right around that time, a mineral grey/coral red F31d started parking in and around our neighborhood. My wife spotted it one day and said. "Those are the colors we need!" I agreed, although part of me really wanted EBII. We finally settled on MG/CR, and took delivery the day before Thanksgiving.

So I hadn't seen the F31d floating around until I took the baby and dog for a walk yesterday morning on a cold Manhattan morning. Lo and behold, sitting right in from of my car was the F31d. I snapped a picture and thought, "Cool!"

On the way back from the walk, I saw a guy with his dog and baby getting stuff out of the trunk of the F31d. I strolled up with the baby and dog in tow, introduced myself, complemented him on his awesome ride and thanked him for the color combo inspiration. He was very nice, and said he did the European Delivery and it was the best experience of buying a car ever.

Just thought I would share, since there aren't many of us out in the wild, let alone diesels (although mine is the gas version). Mine is the one behind.

Nice ride!

Any reason you passed on the E350?

I love my F31 but I find that if it were slightly bigger (E350) for the kids in the rear seats and the cargo was a little larger for 2 hockey bags it would be perfect..

Size alone. There is actually a lot of street parking here in Chelsea, so I typically avoid the garages since they're expensive, and it's hard to find a good one that will treat the car gently. Street parking the F31 is a bit easier than street parking the E350, plus the E350 is just a bit too big for our needs with only one baby and a small dog. Once we have another kid and move to the burbs where I have my own dedicated garage, I'm all in with the E350. For now though, the F31 is freaking fantastic.
