This is from documentation for an e9x but I think after you consider the information it's fairly obvious now that it's the SOS/emergency speaker.
The wiring pinout for the TCU (telemetrics unit) says: 37 Yellow/white 21 Emergency Speaker + 38 Blue/White 20 Emergency Speaker - One main purpose of the TCU is to provide two GSM connections for assist and emergency. GPS if not equipped with NAV, for emergency, and so on. So whoever had the hunch about it being for an emergency and bypassing the stereo and amp for reliability is correct. |
