Define "here"...it won't be on sale in the states until summer 2012...might be available elsewhere earlier...I didn't think it was being unveiled until March 2012 tho

Current rumors point to a public reveal of the F30 in November ( http://www.bimmerpost.com/future-bmw/ ), so we would likely see some kind of internet reveal just before then, October seems to be on the mark. When will it hit the dealer lots? Thats another question, but with the E90, it was a rapid turn around from car show to dealers lots.

For better or worse, BMW accelerated the 3 series time line in response to the late in life bump in sales that the C-Class has had against the 3-Series. Being the bread and butter car for BMW, I guess they felt the need to get a new car out the door ASAP.

I heard sedan Spring 2012, touring after the "werksferien" in september 2012. The same as the F10/11 in 2010.

from auto car

BMW’s junior exec will grow in size, getting close to the dimensions of the outgoing 5-series, courtesy of a longer, wider platform. As a result, the new 3-series will have a roomier cabin.

All I need to know, if this is true goodbye 3.

October or not, I'm sure looking forward to see it, especially the M-sport package.
And I hope the M-sport package comes soon are the release, just like on the F10/11.

they better bring a wagon and not just a damn 3er GT. i'll be running into audi's arm then.

if they say no wagon then I may have to get one of the last produced e91 wagons. I've wanted one sooooooo badly and just figured I'd wait till the f30 but the reports of no wagon scare me.

The difference between the E60 and the E90 is over a foot. Auto Car must be off in their estimates. No way is BMW going to grow the 3 series by that much. Most likely it'll be a couple of inches longer and an inch or so wider. That small difference will make for a "roomy" cabin where differences of a couple of tenths or so means so much to magazine writers when reviewing cars.

Why buy the first MY of the F30? Remember the E90 330i experience where the 335i was released the following year? Like all companies, the first year sales of the F30 will be to people who want the latest thing, but since it has to have a 7 year life-span, the subsequent models will be more mature and polished. With the possible exception of the switch from N54 to N55 (and the savings on the hood insulation and stereo system), the current E90/E92 has gotten better each year (IMHO). Don't underestimate late-models - they are often much better value than new styles. There should also be some bargains as the lots are cleared of E90s for the F30s.

Ive heard differently. The f30 3 series body will be a 9 or 10 year production car instead of the normal 7. but mid way through the cycle they will come out with the facelift model in which bmw said they will seriously reconsider all the basic features and functions of the car that have been the same for the past how many ever years. Dont quote me on this though ha. This is all info from my dealer at classic when i went there on new years eve.

BMW is fairly consistent with their 7 year cycle and this forms the basis for economic planning of the factory re-tooling and parts logistics. They have to be responsive to other company models (esp. the C class) and designs simply fatigue over the years. The last thing they want is a 3 series owner changing to another brand because they don't want to buy essentially the same car. The LCI refresh is a staple means to significantly update a car (and is far more substantial than the MY tweaks that are often no more than re-juggling of options). My point though is that the first MY is for early adopters. I doubt BMW will pull a 330i -> 335i type switch again but there will be a price premium on the first batch of buyers.

BTW, dealer information is probably the least reliable in terms of new product information. I've always found these web sites to be more accurate (there are a number of insiders on the board but they are careful in their information flow...).

Where did you hear this? I thought BMW was talking about shortening the cycle to maybe like 5 or 6 years. But I could be wrong too.

And so the cycle goes, the old E21 i have is about 10" shorter and 6-8" narrower than my e90... (rough guess parked in the garage) but it looks tiny side by side, this is sadly the price we pay for safety and comfort....
But i'll most likely buy an F30 about 2 years into its life and like the e90 i'll not give a rats a** about how fat it is as long as its comfortable on a long journey.....

BMW will definately make an F30 wagon, but BMW USA has already said they are not interested in importing it. Only 2% of current 3 series sold are wagons. But, if you wait until the F30 is unveiled, you should be able to get a great deal on an E91(?) wagon just as the new F30s start hitting the dealer. That`s my plan - as soon as the F30 is unveiled start paying close attention to local inventory.

I hope this isn't true, around the UK roads and car parks 5 series are just ridiculas in some areas, a lot of people are starting to dislike the size of BMWs here especially when you factor in performance and handling as well.

The current 3 is the perfect size.
