So you gain about 10hp and 20lbs at the wheels, by upgrading from stage one? I know this thread is older and beta. Has anything progressed at all? When will the JB4 be out of beta?
I may upgrade if it's worth it. |

I'm running into this same problem. The tuning scene of the N20 doesn't have a bunch of information.

I'm thinking about picking up a Stage 1 harness once I get a few more miles on my car. The way I look at it is if I go all out from the beginning, what will I do when I get a little bored down the road. Also 257hp & 280tq on 91 should turn into roughly 263/285 with 93 octane. Those are some good numbers out of a 2.0l turbo.

Just received my upgrade from Stage 1 to Stage 2.
1. Smoother power delivery and at lower RPMS - much better than the stage 1 which comes in fairly strong. Power delivery is improved over stage 1 primarily in the lower RPM range. SPORT mode is great, car really has a boosted feel - really intoxicating. I think BMW was trying to make the car feel like a larger NA, now torque comes in really fast and really soon. Possibly a bit too aggressive for normal daily driving if you have passangers. Did not try eco-pro. 2. Tune does not turn on until car reaches 160 degrees which is nice and added safety measure. Also makes you appreciate the tune as you feel the difference when it's off. Ability to shut off from steering wheel. 3. Running default MAP1 - no other modifications using 91 octane. No issues. 4. Installation was simple, however, read the instructions thoroughly first. Only 3 sensors are connected - MAF is left factory and will idle rough if used (ask me how I know). I have the solenoid so power delivery may be better than EWG - not sure. 5. Car behaves stock, no other issues - auto stop / start runs fine. 6. 6MT - so when gunning it, I can actually feel wheel slip in the gear knob. Not sure if others with the JB4 experience this however this gear shifter vibrates like crazy stock. |

I'm currently running 4+ on stage1 with 98octane fuel, no other mods. Hopefully map 2 will yield better results to what I'm seeing now. Waiting...patiently |

Top end felt about the same - getting there is a lot quicker! Looking at the graph, you see a real bump mid / early RPM's over stage 1 so the delivery is a bit more linear. I remember reading that folks would not feel a big difference with stage 1 until they "step on it" a bit. Sweet spot seems to be around 4K in 3rd. Its a great tune and for a manual transmission driver, its nice b/c it gives you just enough oomph not to have to downshift.
Also, forgot to mention that Terry said the tune has been out of beta for about a month and a half and is really solid. So far no issues. |

This thread! Looks like I'm going to have to get a stage 1 til they develop the stage 2 for EWG, looks like they've gotten somewhere with the n55 motors so hopefully we're next.

Two Questions:
Can someone tell me how to tell the difference between the EWG and the solenoid? The Dyno on page 1, is Stage 1 being run at 3psi or 4psi? |

I don't think that's the issue with the EWG. JB4 does not need to control the pneumatic WG, so they can safely push the limits. My understanding is they are still trying to figure out how to control the EWG so they need to be a bit more conservative.
I know there was a semi-recent thread on them getting close to figuring out the EWG, but I have not seen much chatter since. I would be willing to bet that once they figure it out, they will be able to be more aggressive than even the pneumatic WGs. Jimbo |

How long have you been running +4? Any drivability issues? How does it compare to +3? Cheers

I have a 535, but it's in service and they gave me a plain 328i. Gotta say this thing is surprisingly fun and zippy. BMW has done a great job with the new 4banger -turbo. A tune on top of this must be a blast. I would not focus on dyno numbers so much as the car handles excellently and has street light to street light power. I would venture to say it's faster than a stock 335 with a tune by a tick or 2 due to weight differences and power delivery. Faster than a stock 335 from 0-60 that is. I know personally that a 335 top end is a beast.
