In 2012 terms the N52 is in some ways outdated. I prefer an I6 to a turbo 4 myself but the new engine is technologically more advanced and more suited to the times. Features like direct injection and turbocharging and related features like auto stop/start, electronic steering and regenerative braking are what are needed in this CAFE and Green driven era. Also, the 2.0 liter puts out more power and a lot more torque than the N52. So it's faster and more efficient.

Not gonne miss the N52's complete lack of torque. Will miss how smooth it is.

The N52 is smooth as silk and I love it with a manual (have been test driving for a couple of months in prep for when I graduate this May). That being said, the days of N52 are dead. Not because of a lack of power or torque, but rather economics. There's just no place for the N52 anymore except in thoughts of yesteryear when BMW used NA engines... Sigh... With the weight loss, 45 more HP and 10-20? more torque, you don't need just 0-60 numbers to "wipe the floor" with the N52. You also need to read the potential dollar signs.

BTW, good tit-for-tat.
Oops. Reverse those HP and torque numbers!

It is sad that the i6 days are numbered. The 3 series i6 was what made BMW such a popular car for the past 25+ years. The smoothness, reliability and sound of the i6 will definitely be better than the 4 banger turbo but times have changed.
