But the gearbox is very strong. The normal N55 is rated to 450nm. Some guys have +700nm. Ours is rated for 700nm..probably can handle 900!
Not much to worry about.

Ended up ordering the JB4 as BR performance would require to work multiple days on the car to activate the switchable "multi-map" feature which I really wanted, plus the "pops and bangs" didn't work out for you.

All in all I think I could be better off with the JB4 and the bluetooth connector.

I'll post any burble here in a couple of weeks when the device has arrived and installed.

Well yes i figured it would be interesting to compete with your tune with an advanced box like the Jb4.

And I want to be able to switch from stock to tuned easily (my wife drives this thing too!), so ordered their Bluetooth extension too.

You should dyno at BR when you have stage 2. That's the best way to compare.

Sorry for the delay. Sometimes I have some drivetrain error, today was the third time.

As already mentioned, the so called overrun burble is a simple ECU feauture.
When activated the ECU injects some extra fuel immediatly after releasing the accelerator pedal to be burned near the exhaust to produce that burbles.
Per software that overun burbles are fully ecu controlled and depending on driving mode, accelerator pedal position, engine speed, temperature and gear. And in principal it has absolutely nothing to do with the mechanical exhaus system. The type of exhaust only amplifies the noise generated by the engine. But if there are no burbles from the engine coming, the exhaus cannot generate them.

It really seems BMW did'nt want the AH3 to burble, maybe because it should be more a fuel saving vehicle for the U.S market than a sporty car where overrun burbles are more desired.
So, BMW most probably just didn't program the overrun burble software function in the ECU. Therefore it won't help activating that ECU feature, because the code is missing.

Most probably neither trying to just prog the PPK ECU software of the "normal" 335i model won't work, because the AH3 is a P2 hybrid with an extra e-motor which needs to be controlled by the ECU software to work together with the combustion engine.

Tuners can only try to modify the existing AH3 software manually and eventually reach a level where the engine produces some (loud) blobs and bangs. But if not done correctly to much injected extra fuel can destroy the cats and/or produce ecu failures due to the exhaust monitoring (the stock AH3 ecu software doesn't expect to have extra injected fuel in the exhaust ract and therefore might produce failures)!!

Sorry, but I think you will have no chance to get the stock burbles of an 335i in the AH3.

Very correct information.

This is my AH3 when I had a drivetrain malfunction. The hybrid motor was disabled and it became a 335i...
