Aftermarket Audio Risks?

I ordered my 428i without HK and was planning to put in my existing Alpine mono amp and my two 12in Kicker Subs.

However, I've heard so many horror stories of people messing up their iDrive by when trying to install stuff. I was going to have my buddy do it for me since he did it on his 5 series but it still worries me. I've heard that many shops don't even fare better..

Anyone have any input?

I seem to recall that there is an official Alpine upgrade in the UK if you search some you may find a thread on it. I think there was a BMW PDF link that detailed the whole process. You might be able to gain some insight from that.

Good luck.

The Alpine OEM amp kit in Europe is not applicable to the HiFi standard system in the USA, and it is not for a sub regardless.

Does your friends car have iDrive? I've personally installed aftermarket radios for about 4 years, but only worked on older cars with aftermarket head units. In my F30 I had a local shop install it and it went smooth. Just be sure the shop has worked on new high end cars.

Pm Technic. He will sort your worries out. Your idrive won't get messed up. He can provide you with a plug and play harness wether to install an amp or new speakers. All PnP.
