These car magazines have become a joke and it is no wonder they give them away $10 for a 60 month subscription. Might as well have Fox News give its "unbiased" opinion. Not.

I wouldn't be surprised if this magazine says the new M3 will be powered by Zooey Deschanel. Lol

I'd like to see this test re-done with a 335i M-Sport equipped with the MPPK. Completely changes the character of the car, especially in sport mode, but also in comfort mode as well. Not sure what C/D was looking for, but the M-Sport F30 is much more of a driver's car than virtually any Lexus will ever be and, as mentioned above, the Lexus is Fugly. Note also the relatively small difference in price between the 3 cars. The gap is narrowing.

More power for the 335? It ran away from the other cars in a straight line as is.

It lost by a point. If I judged the cars the exact same way but knocked the Lexus on styling by the two points that most people would, the results would have been more expected.

I think the problem for M sport 335i is not power, but handling. I'd still like to know if this car was equipped with DHP, because they were a little ambiguous about it.

My understanding is that it had it.

BMW could have skipped one or two options and outfitted it with the Mperformance suspension and kept the cost the same.

Maybe BMW will learn from it and have cars so equipped for performance minded testing.

I get the feeling when doing market research, BMW owners with Ex body 3-series must have really complained about the stiffness of the ride a bit, because the softening can only be explained that way.

Jameson, agree, but hate to say it, for daily driving I'm sure 85%would batch about the M performance being too stiff to love with... So I guess they make it a port install option for nuts like us.

Every car tested, there is one mag that gets a time faster than any other.

I enjoy my 328 but it seems bmw really needs to tweak a few things on the F30, especially with the 335i. As far as I recall, it hasn't won a comparison yet, that is quite unusual.
We're talking about a variant that is different to the 328i in pretty much only engine size and power.
Chassis is the same, suspension the same, steering system the same, tested AT the same.
The biggest variable is the engine, followed by about 110lbs more for the 335i when equally equipped, not enough to dramatically alter the cars performance. The 335i has bigger brakes, but that doesn't appear to make a big difference.

This is not good for BMW all around.
It's not about being a 328i or 335i, it's about the F30's all around softness in comparison to the new competitors and what they've come to battle with.
But then, BMW sales of the F30 have been excellent, and that doesn't make BMW really need to scramble to fix the F30.
I'm sure, or I hope, the face lifted version will have the biggest improvement changes.

Did you read the C&D test of their first 335i?
Clearly not the fastest 335i test, yet that test is quite often quoted.
Now we have the same mag testing another 335i, which tested more in line with what other mags have shown.
The 335i AT is quite fast for a sport sedan, very respectable for a sedan.

I spent a week in a 335 when I had equal time in my 328, the steering is impacted by the weight in the front, felt on the street. Sorry, it's there. Is it that my senses are so heightened that only I am able to detect the difference...doubt it. An interesting test will be if the 328 is tested against the new is250. It will be the faster car just like the 335 is in this comparison, so if they choose the 328 over it, it says something about the handling. So far in the arena of competition the 328 is fairing better than the 335. Only when we get here and pit the two 3's against each other are things getting muddled.

I find this article not explaining things fully.
The Msport tested has the M adaptive suspension, but there is not mention of how the reviewers used it or how they tested it.
It's distinctly an item that needs to have been discussed.
Does the Lexus sport suspension have optional settings?
If so, what were the differences when set to different settings compared to the 335i and the ATS adaptive system.
Does the ATS's adaptive system have different settings?
If so, then what difference that it makes in that car?

The above quote seems to describe my 335i Msport when driving fast on country twisting roads with the system set to "comfort", which is not where it should be set for those conditions.

you are right there, i am assuming that they had it set to the highest sport settings on all the cars since they were testing the car's performance- but you can't be too sure if they set to the most aggressive setting in all the cars.

Regardless... many of the forums agree about the f30 suspension to a degree, maybe not as negative as in the article. but the consensus is that is definitely "softer" and that you don't feel as connected to the car as say the e90.

The m performance suspension reviews seem to say that the car should have came from the factory that way, and that the sport is too soft.
