Sad day for me
Just had a minor accident with my <2 months old sportline F30-335
Dealer says need to replace the bumper, so I thought, what the heck might as well change to the m-performance/sport kit... but was told it cost double the price? Supposedly a number of mounting/brackets need to be replaced as well.. i was like WTF?! Did the dealer try to pull a fast one? I'm not in a urgent need to have my kit replaced, it's just a scratch, but visible... ... and I just change to m-performance black grille just one week ago, and they are gone now... Sorry to hear about your little mishap. In my experience whenever you deviate from the standard spec of your car, e.g. M Sport bumper on a non-M Sport car, retrofit this, switch to that, the dealers eye's light up with $ signs.
I remember when we had chrome bumpers on cars - whatever happened to this idea that these new-fangled, so called 'deformable' bumpers were supposed to make life easier and cheaper? Seems when you get a scratch the solution is very often to replace the whole thing at some not insignificant cost? Oooh dear, was starting to rant there

Updated with pics, 2 visible damage point:
q.) The top piece where the BMW logo is, slightly dented 2.) Right side grille scratch and a gap opened up between the bumper and right headlight The rest are light scratches here & there that nothing a fresh coat of paint and some putty couldn't fix We did however noticed that there is a metal piece poking out from behind the grille, dealer mentioned that there a "crash bar" of some sort behind the bumper that need to be replaced as well. |

But whatever it is, if i insist on the M performance bumper/aerokit, I might have to wait for another 2 months before parts arrived... double sigh! |

Double the price makes sense. The dealer is not trying to pull a fast one on you... at least no more than they always do on accessories, upgrades and retrofits. The m-sport bumper is a wildly different shape. So things underneath the bumper cover will be different.
Even if you take it to a local body shop, they will have to order all the necessary brackets etc. You'll save a little more money on labor but the parts will still cost a lot. |

But US$2K to reinstate the original look or $3.3K for the m-performance bumper |

Welp...
Hate to say this... But it would appear the new bumper styling (flat-lined hood) is serving its purpose quite well for minor collisions. And yeah that definitely makes sense re: M Sport bumper. There's much more involved than just a couple of fasteners. There are air diffuser parts they'd need to fit as well.

Don't forget you may lose the fogs when you go to the M front end. My M Sport (building this week) doesn't have them, but I'd love to know how to add them, even aftermarket...

gonna do workshop shopping this weekend to look for alternatives... it's quite the norm the local dealer here like to change every darn part instead of repairing it...
