Talking Shivas' M Performance Brakes Review

My whorage to M Performance continues, and I picked her up today after getting the M Performance brakes installed.

My stock brakes were great for DD, but I didn't think they'd hold up well to some light autox, and frankly, I also wanted to fill up those wheels...

I've driven on them for a hundred miles and wanted to report some impressions that are surprisingly contrary to others:
1. Pedal modulation is great. I felt like the stock setup was more on and off, this is more geared towards late, deep-drive braking, where you can adjust the pedal accordingly. Very similar to my Evo VIII. Not squishy like others have stated.
2. Initial bite. I guess my install was done correctly, Not light or weak like others have stated.
3. Pad noise. I have none, these are great pads. Only a hundred miles of city driving, so not expecting too much. I'm still bedding them in (did some 70-50 stops, some 50-30's, and some 50-0's), but I would imagine these pad characteristics to carry.

I love these brakes, finally feel like I'm getting to my Evo VIII's level of braking, handling, and steering (when in Sport mode that is!) with the softness of a DD when I need it.

I'm not following...2 extra pistons in the front? Aren't the stock 335 brakes 4-pots up front already?

Can't wait to hear you say, "they don't dust that bad" ... lol... wishful thinking... Did you have a dealership do the install? Mind sharing install cost?

It was $500 for labor, not too bad IMO (after CCA discount).
$2000 for parts.

$500 isn't too bad considering a flush is $120ish and coding is probably 1 hour ($100ish). And that was at a dealership right?

Yup dealership, they've installed everything on my car (see my sig) so I'm sure that had something to do with it...;-)

The 335i's have 4 piston calipers in front. 2 on each side of the caliper. . . Brembo 4 pots. Except it says brembo on the back of the calipers. It's the size of the rotor up front that increases.

After close examination, it's also the pad diameter too, the amount of area swept goes up considerably...almost 25% from eye balling it...

Yeah I assume it would have to. Must be some serious clamping power. I'm gonna install a kit in a couple months after my morr vs8.2's come in. They are gorgeous.

Yes.
From my understanding the stock 335i calipers are 4 pot front and 2 pot rear.
The 328i has 2 pot front and 1 pot rear.
So the M Performance brake upgrade for the 328i is quite a good step up.

The only difference in the brakes with the Msport pkg is that Msports get a different, "more aggressive", brake pad.

You said that the M Performance pads are larger, thus having a larger swept area on the rotor. That's cool.
Is this comparing the Msport pads to the M Perf pads?
I'm not sure if the Msport pads are larger or if they are only of a different material compared to the stock pads.

Your review shows a very good positive effect, a decidedly positive review to offset the cost.
And they look great.

Congrats. You should post some pics of them on. I hope you like brake dust.

Holy brake dust.

This is after a weekend of gently bedding them in...this is comical...like gives my Evo VIII a run for the money!

Oh well, braking is amaze balls....

Stock 335i have 4 pot front & single pot sliding caliper at the rear.
The US-spec Msport pads are same size as standard pads as they're just standard EU-spec pads.

So then...the M Performance brakes are a HUGE upgrade for the rear because the rear is DEF (I visually confirmed this), 2 pistons in the rear versus this sliding shit, right?

They look great. I had the 400M wheels for a little and the brake dust really shows on the silver finish. You can still see it, but it's not as obnoxious on my gunmetal M5 reps.

I wonder if there is a wheel polish that would minimize the dust pick-up.

I wash my car myself, and 1/2 of the time is spent on the wheels.
