If the DVD is playing on the back seat monitor that's fine. But if it's on the dash, that's crazy. It's way too tempting to divert your eyes to the screen when you're moving. It's human nature to push the limits when you've got a story on the screen. If you want to listen to music then use a CD or MP3 or radio. So you've got a DVD on the dash, your cell phone is ringing, you're texting your wife about something urgent, your GPS is talking to you, and then there's always Siri to chat with if you're still bored--not to mention the kids in the back seat. Sorry, but I repeat--that is insane. Man up and skip the DVD.

I see people weaving all over the road more and more these days. In the "good old days" that meant they were drunk. Now it means they're texting and/or watching Robocop IV on their DVD monitor.

Agree with the safety portion of it. But just as having your cell phone with you doesn't mean you have to read/reply your messages while driving, being able to play a DVD while driving doesn't mean you have to get distracted. All depend on your responsibility as a driver.

MANY studies have been done that show that all these electronic "aides" set up neural pathways in the brain that are akin to addictive neural patterns. In other words, many people--no matter how responsible they intend to be--will change their behavior, thereby endangering themselves and their family and innocent people who are the unfortunate victims of their distraction.
