What type of TPMS does F30 use?
I've been reading through http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg3.html and it mentioned several different types of TPMSs'.
I recently bought F30 and of course there is no spare wheel because it has the run flat tires. These are my summer tires (and 19" rims), but for winter I bought smaller rims (17"), for which I intend to by Micheline Alpin, which are not run-flat, and to acquire a tire mobility system, in case I puncture the tire. The claim from http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg3.html about the inability to use the tire mobility system with Valve-stem sensors, because the aerosol will go directly through the sensor and effectively render it useless, got me to pause a bit. Does anyone know what TPMS type is used in the F30? Is it Valve-stem sensors and is it true about the aerosol? Thanks. |

Canadian F30s accomplish tire pressure monitoring by analyzing the wheel speed rotation (via ABS Tone Rings). There isn't a TPMS sensor on the valve stem inside in the tire.
I'd say your best bet would be to check at your local BMW dealer and ask them what system your car uses. |

Based on this you're telling me that I should have no issues with TPMS sensors when I swap my OEM SportLine 18s for an OEM 2014 328d set of rims that have my winter tires on them?

This is what mine uses. I would look on the can of aerosol to see if it's sensor safe. I know when they first started the sensors, they had to go back and reformulate most of the "fix-a-flat" sprays to be sensor safe, so if it says it on the can, you should be fine.
BMW also sells a Repair kit with sealant, so I'm sure the sensors are safe for most sealants. Just have to make sure you get the sensors cleaned real good whenever you take it in to get the tire properly fixed. Mobility Kit |

That sounds like the TPMS sensors the US market cars, like mine, have.
Like what was mentioned it will be worth asking a dealership service department or parts department to make sure. There are two different systems in use depending on where the car is sold.

There are two different ones depending on year.
Think the break is around 2013 or early 2014.

Forgot about that...so at least three variations in play.

I'm resurrecting this thread so I don't open another one asking the same thing.
On Thursday I have an appointment to change my summer wheels(Style 397 18") with plain winter wheels. My car is 2016 F30 and was not able to find information or details on the TPMS system for my car. I am unsure if the TMPS is using a valve stem sensor or just analyzing wheel speed rotation How can I figure out which system my car has? |

Just a thought, and hopefully others will feel free to correct me.
For the vehicles with the in-wheel TPMS sensors, I believe you'll be able to see the individual tire pressure in the iDrive vehicle status area. For a vehicle with the rotational speed system it may just provide a red/green status with no pressure value since those systems aren't able to provide that type of information.
