Just Installed JB4....dissapointed

Maybe I was too optimistic that I could control maps without hooking up a laptop (coming from N54 JB4)...but apparently that would just be easy and cut sales for USB to serial cables.

So now I got 500 bucks in cables hanging outa my engine while I wait to find another cable....

Why these are even sold without the cable is beyond me.

It is sold with cables because
1- some people already have the cable and do not need to pay for another one
2- some people just use map 1 and do no do any datalog

What website did you order from? Burger Tuning specifically shows different packages.

Apparently you should have done more research. Burger Tuning even has video's of changing maps with the steering wheel

I saw the video holding down the volume button...Why not hold for 5 seconds then blip it for how ever many times you want your map? There's many ways it could've been. It was so simple with the N54, I just don't get why they took features away.

Huh? You can select between map 0 and 1 using the volume control. For higher maps you use the BMS USB cable.

Partially incorrect Mike.

The feature isn't made to switch maps but to be able to turn the tune off. So you are able to turn it off and back on to the previous map you set using the USB cable.

I believe cracking the software in the car is the problem with being able to open up more remote options with switching maps.

Second to mike@x-ph.com, USB cable sold separately due to some has it already or they don't plan to do anything with the tune but install and forget.

I believe there is a pretty good app you can install on your phone that interfaces with the unit via bluetooth. I never used it but I'm pretty certain you still need the cable to set it up though.

I havn't heard of any app...I'll search over at N54.

I'm just dissapointed at the lack of a feature which I know should be possible. Other cool features with the N54 like boost gauge on oil pressure, gauge swings etc were nice, but I can udnerstand the decision to make it a simple piggyback vs opening up the ECU box etc, so from that aspect I get it, but map switching on the fly should be easier IMO.

Yeah I have the app. It's great. But you have to buy a Bluetooth kit first. The it connects to you phone and you can change maps and data log.
