340i xdrive engine whine

I have about 1900 miles on my 340i xdrive and about the last week there has been distinct change in the engine sound. It's most noticeable at lower speeds (less ambient noise) and mid rpm range. It sounds like a whine/droning. There may be a slight reduction in power as well but this is harder to say. No warning indicators. I have a service appt Friday but I worry they will just say they don't hear it or it's normal. I tried to record it but it doesn't seem to reproduce well. It sounds much more normal in the video than in reality but here it is. Any thoughts on what it could be? Thanks.

I don't know what this persons problem was plus it's an n20 but this sounds identical to what I'm hearing but reproduced much better than my vid.

Hmm to be honest I don't hear anything abnormal. The n20 video posted for reference sounds like a bearing issue maybe alternator?

It never ceases to amaze me how many people trust this forum more than the dealership's service department with all the diagnostic equipment and techniques they have.

I scheduled a service appt before even posting. I think it's fair to say that things like this without any error codes thrown may be hard to reproduce when at the dealer or they just don't hear what you do. Going to the dealer armed with some additional insight from others with similar problems can be useful and potentially speed up the diagnosis.

Sounds normal to me as well, sorry.

Just keep the revs up near 6000 RPM and you and your ears will be happy.
