Ok, a few sweeping generalisations to get out the way first...
Alfa Romeo - Just don't float my boat. Aston Martin - money pit. Audi - Never in a million years, they can all go hang for all I care. (Yes there's a story there! ) Bentley - If you gave me a GTC, a million quid to run it and a house on the Riviera then maybe. Chevrolet/Chrysler - c'mon, stop being silly. Citroen/Peugeot/Renault - sorry the four worst cars of my life were French. Never again. Ferrari - sadly no. Ford - How can I say this politely? Err.... nope. Fiat - I want p o w e r r r... not chic. Honda - Maybe if I was retired and wore beige? Hyundai - They're improving but nothing hairy chested yet. Infiniti - Meh. Jaguar - Hmmm, bit of an image thing going on and the fast ones are too pricey. Jeep - Kia - Another manufacturer that's improving but again nothing 'exciting'. Lamboghini - Sorry only one I ever liked was the Miura. LandRover - Evoque is too slow, Freelander is naff, Discovery is for huge families, Range Rover is for the gentry. Lexus - Wake me up when it's over. Maserati - Like the look of the GranTurismo but too much money. Mazda - For old men who think they're nippy Mercedes - Driven plenty, never owned one, never wanted too. MG - Need a car that starts every time. Mini - Maybe if I had a sex change. Mitsubishi - Bit dull except for the Evo which ain't my cuppa tea. Morgan - Not very practical. Nissan - For mums and reps, except the GTR which is too bonkers for me. Porsche - Would consider a 911 but not as a daily driver. Proton - Get outta here! Seat - Again, they don't excite. Skoda - Capable good value cars but the hot ones are just luke warm. Smart - I'd sooner wear roller-skates. Subaru - Same as Mitsubishi, all a bit safe except for one hooligan car. Suzuki - The motoring equivalent of beige paint (although being driven round Goodwood by a rally driver in a Suzuki Swift was huge fun). Toyota - Aimed at pensioners or budget-conscious housewives with 12 kids? Vauxhall - Had too many Vauxhall hire cars to ever want to own one. VW - Nearly bought a Scirocco, bought a BMW instead. Volvo - Bit of a stuffy image. Tried a few on a Volvo Freedom day but didn't come away wanting one. Hmmm, talked myself into another BMW perhaps. Was originally thinking of a 330d next when the LCI comes round, but been enjoying the refinement of petrol since getting this car. Not sure we'll see a 330i or 430i though. Then again, always had a soft spot for the F10 M5...

I got 32 miles down the road and the dashboard fell out complete onto the floor, when I took it back ( and it drove crap by the way) the sales guy said "no problem we will stick it back", I said you can stick the car mate. Build quality ................rubbish.

mtmcgavock - agreed. My Merc was £40K and I really believe that my wife's Mazda was better built. Certainly, it didn't suffer the same number of rattles. F30AM - there is one other consideration........the Merc forums are nowhere near as extensive as those for BMW! You'd miss F30post! |

Robuk: I agree with you. However, BMW do piss me off!
Crazy: Merc owners are not computer litrate as they can be quite ancient. Many BMW owners are totally language illterate! Both drive me mad.

Never a truer word was said in jest.
The Service Manager at Berry Chiswick has gone. I wrote a letter to the MD citing shoddy treatment. Body Shop Berry Chiswick top notch. I've found a superb Service Dept. HR Owen in Park Royal and the Service Manager is Tony O. Wonderful guy. Totally brilliant! BTW, kerbed my GTI wheel after 3 years at a BMW Dealer! What a mess!!!!! Got a spare one which I bought cheap. Anyway, GTI is gone in 2-3 weeks time. I'll miss it.

I'm in Central London. HR Owen or Hexagon Highgate. The former is totally brilliant. Quite famous for fab service.

It's funny how some get good treatment in a dealership and others are not.
I play them off "one against the other" for the best deal, and then go to "my dealer" and see what they are offering, then hit them with the lowest - a grand or two and get an even better offer. Works for me. They always come up trumps. Coopers seem (in my case) to be the most greedy along with Syntners.

At our dealer we've always been treated quite well, however I'm lead to believe the service department is awful if you actually have a problem (I've never had one, but it's only been in for service and minor items). It seems Sales can't do enough for you then service don't give one (The usual).
Saying that though, my Grandfather had been buying cars from them for 20 years then when he wanted standard tires on the X5 instead of run flats they weren't interested and wouldn't even entertain the idea. He ended up buying elsewhere with a massive discount |

So many people are just too lazy to shop around for a week or two, it pays masive. The dealers give you one price one week and wait a week and they ring back it's down a lot. I have not had a poor RV+discount deal yet, all this BULL they give you . "you can't have it both ways" sorry guy you can and I do.

Their price has always been alright, we've always got 15%-20% discount minimum on cars we've bought and no other dealer around here seems to be interested in even matching that currently.
I always do my homework before buying In regards to the other dealer, I think they we're just desperate to get orders. They even threw in all the wiring for the towbar! (Worth £700) |
