Orbitals...?
Hi all,
So anyone here recommend orbitals over hand waxing? How much more effective/easier is it compared to the hand method. Also, any recommendations on orbitals for a beginner (I don't want to burn my paint). Thanks! Sam |

Get a porter cable or griots DA, wont burn paint with that.

It's so much easier, pick up the claying pad while youre at it. I can clay my car in 20 min now. Use liquid wax and clay and wax in 40min is easy.
Advanced auto sells griots products and frequently has 30 off 100 purchases. |

I got a full package when I purchased my 135...Porter cable polisher...pads/polish/sealant etc. I emailed detailed image and detailers domain and got great detailed recommendations on products. They both put together a comprehensive package plus gave me a good price. I have purchased from both and recommend them big time.
There are some GREAT you tube vidoes on how to use the polisher. Very easy! It has been a really good purchase. I see you live in Seattle. Isn't there a big Griot's factory store just south of you in Tacoma? A coworker of mine is an BIG Griot's fan and I believe he has been there before. He said good products and great advice. I bet they even have some instructional seminars there...learn with a pro! |

griots orbital is great for beginners. Also if you have heavy swirls you will want something better like a flex polisher. I don't care for griots polish it flakes bad when drying. Then the white flakes get every where. I used wolfgang polishes and this is way better than griots polish. check out www.autogeek.net
recently I started using adamspolishes.com and every thing I have used detail spray, car wash, and interior cleaner are awesome products. I have not used any polishes from them. |

I use a Magruiars DA for paint correction and polishing, but I can't imagine why you'd need it for waxing or sealing. Modern paint protection products wipe on and off so easily it's hardly hard work to do by hand.

If you are only applying wax the Porter Cable is good enough but if you are going to polish/compound at minimum get the Griot's. We offer a training class teaching how to use a machine to correct paint.

Harbor Freight now sells a dual action orbital buffer (6") which is apparently similar to the "HD" or "3D" brand buffers. I have one and aside from being rather loud it seems just as good as my porter cable. With a coupon I think i paid $30 for it. I dont use the harbor freight pads though as I dont trust them.

If you are new to polishing you should look into random orbital polishers...the best one i have seen so far in the market is the FLEX 3401. It's really easy to use....i just bought one and used it recently on my car. I tried on atesting area then had the confidence to carry out the rest of the car. Turned out the results are great

Bought a Porter Cable (PC7424XP), all sorts of pads, Menzerna products and clay back in 2010 from eshine.
Since then, did my 1st 335i, my X5 35d (long hours), and intend of treating the '12 335i the same this year. Locate videos on youtube (or DetailerDomain, Eshine, etc.) and practice on hidden spots first. Don't forget to damp the pads ! Welcome to the club !
