It gets taken off the final negotiated price. After you register for the event and attend it, you will get a "Thank You" email with a unique ID number. Print out the email and take it in to your dealer.

If he resides in the same household then it can be transferred to you. You will have to provide proof of residency

Thanks that helps. I am going in tomorrow to talk to the dealer but the event is in 2 weeks, i wonder if i should even mention to him that i plan on attending and THEN will order the car.
not sure if he'd try to pull a fast one to say he already gave me the lowest price and won't honor it - or he has no choice since its a mfg rebate.

Looks like according to my local dealer, if you want to use the rebate you have to buy it from that exact dealer and not a different one that wasn't the host.

The dealer I want to buy it through isn't exactly a bmw dealer but more of a german import dealer. The dealer with the test drive event is pretty much BMW only.

Maybe that's the reason, I'm not sure.

If I can use the $1k at the place I want to buy it from, I'd be able to get it for $500 below invoice.

"SOrry I have no more information on this, that is limited to the dealer, please call them for details"

Basically, I asked if the rebate is from BMW why does the dealer make the rules, and he kept saying he has no more info to give and I should just call the local dealer.

Has anyone's dealer honored the $1000 offer beyond the original expiration date? I know this is not apples to apples but when my ordered Audi was delayed 2 months because of a supplier issue (outside of everyone's control), the Audi dealer agreed to honor a similar test drive event discount even though the original expiration date had passed by the time I took delivery. Do BMW dealers have this kind of latitude too? Or is the program run corporately (BMW USA) so the money essentially disappears on the expiration date?

its kind of funny when you call BMW NA about it they say 'oh its all about how the dealer handles it' but everything on these forums says that its all BMW NA. BMW NA told me its up to the dealer who can use that rebate and what the terms are.

I wanted to order a car from dealership B while doing my un4gettable at dealership A. Dealership B at first said they wouldn't honor it but then after talking to the manager they would. HOwever, they said there is no chance I'll get the car before the window so it really was all a lost cause if you wanted to order it from GER.

I can call BMW NA and try to get them to reason. The previous time I called I just told them how ridiculous it is and the guy agreed with me but said nothing he can do. It's a promotion to get the lot inventory reduced.

Its $1000 off, why wouldnt it be worth doing?

I did it at a dealer an hour+ away on a Saturday, received my coupon via email on Monday and then used it at a more local dealer.

The coupon comes from BMW, not from the dealer, so you can use it with any dealer since they just redeem it through BMWNA anyway.

And actually, when I gave my name to the BMW rep at the dealer when checking in he asked if I wanted to test drive or just receive the coupon.
I chose to stick around and test drive anyway, but could have just simply walked in and out and still receive the coupon.
