Rattling Engine Noise

Guys! Please help!! This morning I went out and it was okay during cold start. But when I was about to go back and started the engine, this noise appeared and it got faster when I revved it. Any idea?

Sounds like rod knock which is not good. You most likely lost a main bearing and the gap between the connecting rod and crankshaft is making the sound. Hope I'm wrong, but you'll need a rebuild or a new engine.

That's what I'm afraid of also after reading about it.. Seems like that's the closest explanation though.. I'm going to get it towed to the dealer.. Thanks!!

I am by no stretch a mechanic BUT, that sounds like a major problem to me and I wouldn't do anything (including a restart attempt) until that thing is sitting at your local BMW dealer.

I've had it sent to the BMW dealer and is still being checked. It's already been 2 days but they still haven't found what the problem is. The supervisor said it could be the HVAC

Garage List
Exhaust leak wouldn't be a bad thing rather than an engine issue...

Hi guys!! I just heard again from the dealer that it's caused by faulty exhaust valve. My car will have to sit there for another 3 weeks for the parts to come in

My new 435 was in the shop for about 3 weeks due to a broken cam seal they could not figure out. BMWNA paid for 1.5 months of my lease for me. Call and ask.

So the dealer called me and said they checked the whole engine and found this:

Some of the valves and the top set were dented by some kind of object that got stuck in the engine. No idea what it was.

Now they're ordering more new parts to change the faulty ones.

Well at least I'd be getting kinda brand new engine soon
