On the issue of squeaks: it's next to impossible to have a car that has plastic, rubber, and metal not squeak when one market is facing 120 degree temperatures and no humidity while another is facing a blizzard. The other issue is producing hundreds of thousands of identical cars, which is not possible without increasing the price significantly. I've been in a brand new BMW 5-series that squeaks and rattles, and I've been a 3-series with 50,000 miles that's dead silent. Another big area where rattles come from are the folding rear seats because they're not solidly mounted to the car like normally would be. Yet another problem around is the dashboard, to get around this the Rolls-Royce Phantom by making the dash out of one solid piece of milled aluminum, instead of the traditional plastic.

So, do you want to trade in your BMW for a $400,000 Rolls-Royce?
Plastic is definitely the culprit in the rattle and buzz on any/every car. I also agree climate plays a huge role in how your interior behaves. The colder the climate the more prevalent these rattles are. But high temp climates bring problems of their own with expanding rubber and bringing in creaks and grinds.

We send our prototypes to Arizona and Alaska to the most extreme climates, to minimize these issues. I'm sure with time these rattle issues will/should disappear. Launching a new product is always stressful and the goal is to get the car to the customer as fast as possible. As time passes manufactures become more familiar with little issues, and they get resolved.

Again, it's not a touch screen.

The driver is just trying cover as much of the interior as possible from the photographer.

Agreed, the concept launch was a home goal IMHO. It seems to have taken forever to bring this out after the 3er, it might start to date very quickly. I hope it looks good when they reveal it, fingers crossed!

well, if its any consolation - i was trying to build a $72K mercedes GL 450 SUV on their website the other day and it does not come standard with xenons. You have to order the "lighting package". Truly BS.

I tried not to get my hopes up. The concept didn't help the situation.

They are changing the number, not the car. For all intents and purposes it is still a 3-series coupe.

A bit tongue and check, but yeah, I DO wonder why my $50k BMW squeaks.

I've owned 6 cars in my life, from Ford's to a Mitsu Evo to Acura's. Not a single one of them squeaked. I'm older too, so technically my hearing is worse and I should be picking up less noises.

THANKFULLY, i have a great tech you has literally repaired/addressed the following:
1. Squeaks
2. Rusty frames
3. Gas Cap not closing
4. Moaning steering wheel
in 9k of owning the car...
That's poor QC/fitment/finish IMO, whether it's a Ford or BMW, it's sad in this day and age. And there's no excuse, you shouldn't have to buy a $400k Phantom to get around that.

I do not think that is what it is. Looks like a regular seat belt to me.

The new BMW models to have a sort of electric seat belt. After you put the belt on there is a electric motor that tugs the belt taught. That is how it is on a 5GT LCI. Its very weird the first few times it happens.

well we know the interior will be the same as the f30 and the front will be a mix between the f30 and f10lci. the rear will be very f30 in terms of the lights, bumper markers and exhaust. the rear side speakers just look plopped in there.

OK, so from the new pics, it looks like:
The seats are the same ones found in the E92. That's not a bad thing; I love those seats.

The open-close door pockets are not going to be there. I'll miss that. I love that they open and close and your stuff isn't hanging out there for the world to see. At present, I have about $68 in my driver's side door and it's been there for well over three years of car washes, BMW servicing, one body shop visit for a week, tire changes, and valet parking. Not a soul knows its there and nobody's run off with it.

What happened to that fancy stitching we saw in the concept? That was a nice touch.

Seriously this 4 is looking better by each day.
It makes the E92 look boring imo.

At least integrate it as one piece. It looks tacky the way they have it. Any chance getting it painted the body color would be an option?

Oh don't worry, I completely agree. I take one F10 535i on a test drive and it's perfect, I take an F10 528i out and it squeaks like crazy and doesn't drive straight. I agree that BMW's quality control should be better, but I don't think it's fair to say that BMW is somehow worse than other car companies. Maybe your specific car is worse than the previous cars you owned but that's not a very large sample size.

I think that with competition, it does breed better performance, safety, and efficiency, but quality often does get left behind because as newer and newer generations come out, the prices also seem to be dropping. I think it's insane to lower the price of a car when a new iteration shows up; personally, I'd rather pay a few grand more and have a car that doesn't need to be recalled/doesn't rattle/etc.

Certainly this shouldn't be the focus. If you have orders flying in, the goal should be to retain these customers (for multiple model cycles) and make them satisfied with their product, rather than getting their BMW from Germany to the US one or two weeks quicker. I specifically ordered my F30 and waited the three months, and specced it without a sunroof or folding rear seats, just to make sure there were no squeaks. With that being said, I do think that quality is generally moving in the right direction and the fit-and-finish of each generation is getting better and better.

I look forward to the day when we don't have to deal with the squeaks and rattles of loose plastic and uneven gaps.

Too much similar to an E92 mixed up with an F30.
I wonder how a normal person will be able to distinguish an F30 from a 4er Gran Coupè!

Btw it looks nice, but i'll keep the e92 or trade it for an f30 rather than buying this.
