Rear light housing issue, warranty?

Hi guys,

Just finished a long road trip from Calgary, AB to Victoria, BC and back in my 2013 335i.

When I was filling up on the way home, I noticed my passenger side rear light housing was oddly sticking out. This is the piece attached to the trunk lid, not the rear quarter panel. Looking closer, I found I could lift it slightly to see that the plastic hook was broken off. I haven't the slightest clue how that could happen. I know it wasn't that way when I left the hotel that morning simply because I had to load the trunk myself. Light housing is still pretty much inside, can't be pulled out (without extreme force I assume) so it's in no danger of falling off.

This is what it looks like, trunk is in open position with me holding it to take this shot.

Question is, will this be covered under warranty or am I going to be paying for this one?

If I'm paying, can anyone confirm if this is the right part?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Wow... thanks for the links guys. This will help me when I drop into my dealer on the way home tonight from work. I'll do some reading.

Is there a number or official details/docs about this recall?

Thanks.

And to clarify, this is a "Service Bulletin", not a "Recall". The two are VERY different...

Hi guys,

So I stopped off at Calgary BMW and spoke to an advisor (man, I like the fact that their service department goes until 9pm). He didn't know about the problem, but straight away scanned my fob and indicated that it'll be covered under warranty.

I scheduled a service appointment for Wednesday since I couldn't let them have the car right away. They're doing a few other service maintenance items (I'm at 40k km at the moment) at the same time.

Very happy with the immediate service!

Lol i dont think that it works as a plug n play with our old units. Some wiring and coding must be done. Would be a nice surprise if they did that...one can daydream i guess.
