Just got a BMW-New to the community

I just picked up a certified low mileage 2017 330i: Msport, Shadowline, etc. So far, I love the car, but would like a little more power. I have been reading about easy performance mods and need some advice. I decided to do a BMS Billet Intake and some type of a tune. I more than likely won't do more than this. I just can't decide whether to do a simple piggyback such as the JB+ or the DINANTRONICS Sport, or go with a re-flash such as the Bootmod3 or the tune offered by DME. Both look to be easy to do, but there is an appreciable price difference. Is the re-flash (stage 1) going to give me that much more performance over the simple piggy back kits I mentioned? I appreciate any and all advice from those that are much more experienced in this venue than me. Thanks.

Flash tunes are definitely more popular than piggybacks nowadays and offer more options as well. Bootmod is a good option. Be aware that a piggyback or flash tune will void your drivetrain warranty if that's something you're concerned about.

What if you remove a piggyback prior to a service call. Can they still tell that you had it installed? Or, on a flash tune change it back to OEM before a service call. I still have 2.5 years left on warranty so it is kind of important.

The word on the street is that BMW dealers are now using new software that auto-detects if you have modified your engine when your car is serviced, piggyback or flash even if the piggyback is removed or you reflashed to stock.

Some people haven't had any issues recently, my guess is not every dealer has the new software yet. Maybe some others can chime in.

I plan on tuning my car but it still has a little over a year left on the factory warranty so waiting until that expires. It's tempting to do it sooner though lol.

Dinan provides flash tunes that comes with its own warranty that BMW doesn't mind. It's more expensive though and I'm not sure how good it is I'm guessing it's a conservative tune like the MPPSK for the 340/440's but don't quote me on that.

By the way, welcome to the community and hope you enjoy your new ride!

Wow, I didn't know about the software you are referring to. One would think a simple piggyback would be undetectable because it is just "fooling" the DME. I still have 2.5 years of warranty left so maybe I better hold off. Thanks for the welcome and the reply!

Get a simple piggyback and remove it before your visit (JB+ , Turbo Transformer or Dinan Sport).

From what im seeing with my customers, this is still a very safe bet when it comes to warranty

I know about the Dinan and the JB+ and their difference being bluetooth adjustability. How good is the Turbo Transformer? Lowest price, but is it is good as the afore mentioned? Thanks for your input Mike!

it works the same way as all the simple tuners, it has its own app where you can change maps and settings.

Welcome!

There are so many modifications to consider which will make you enjoy your car even more.

If you are concerned about maintaining engine + transmission warranty, improving suspension behavior would be worth considering.

Other than the drivetrain, the driver interacts with the suspension more frequently than any other component.
